Add Intellij launcher shortcut and icon for ubuntu

I think it's easier to

1. open Intelli J
2. Click on "Tools"
3. Click on "Create Desktop Entry..."

... and be done.

Yeah, the instructions say Open IntelliJ, click Tools, then click "Create Desktop Entry." What it DOESN'T say is between step 1 and 2 you have to open a project. The issue is there is a Tools object on the launch screen, but you need the Tools MENU. @8FN you are the man.

What if that my latest IDEA|CLion doesn't even has 'Creat Desktop Entry' from Tool menu?😢

I'm currently using Ubuntu-20.04 in WSLG as my distro.

I installed IntelliJ in Arch and first launched the program from bin folder by executing ./idea.sh in terminal. in the welcome screen, there is a settings icon at the bottom, there i was able to find create Desktop entry

The Tools option works perfectly

On Ubuntu 24.04 the Tools > Create Desktop Entry way works like a charm.
Once the Icon appears on the dash, you can pin it easily (right click)
