I think it's easier to
- open Intelli J
- Click on "Tools"
- Click on "Create Desktop Entry..."
... and be done.

Yeah, the instructions say Open IntelliJ, click Tools, then click "Create Desktop Entry." What it DOESN'T say is between step 1 and 2 you have to open a project. The issue is there is a Tools object on the launch screen, but you need the Tools MENU. @8FN you are the man.

The Tools option works perfectly
On Ubuntu 24.04 the Tools > Create Desktop Entry way works like a charm.
Once the Icon appears on the dash, you can pin it easily (right click)
