ISO Codes of Countries and Territories in/near the European Union

#ISO Codes of Countries and Territories in/near the European Union For purposes like the EU cookie law, it's useful to know what countries and territories could be considered to be within the EU. I've erred on the side of over-inclusiveness in the following lists, rather than being legally precise.

For each country or territory, I've given the ISO code as you would get from IP locators like Maxmind.

##Member Countries

There are currently (July 2015) 28 member countries:

Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Estonia, Ireland, Greece, Spain, France, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden, United Kingdom.

ISO codes:

BE, BG, CZ, DK, DE, EE, IE, GR, ES, FR, HR, IT, CY, LV, LT, LU, HU, MT, NL, AT, PL, PT, RO, SI, SK, FI, SE, GB.

Note the EU uses different codes for Greece and the UK, the above list contains the ISO codes.

##Nearby Counties

The following countries and territiories are small places outside the EU that are strongly influenced by it and are often dependent on the telecoms infrastructure of a nearby EU country.

Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City

JE,GG,IM,AD,MC,SM,VA

##Self Governing Areas

These areas are within the EU, but have different ISO codes from the parent country.

Åland, Gibraltar.

AX,GI

##Outermost Regions

Some of the outermost regions have their own ISO codes (others, like the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands, do not).

The outermost terrories are not included in the list of codes, as few EU laws apply, but are listed here for completeness.

Anguilla, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Falkland Islands, Montserrat, Pitcairn Islands, Saint Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha, Turks and Caicos Islands.

Faroe Islands and Greenland.

French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, Saint Martin.

Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.

The last three places mentioned (combined they are the Caribbean Netherlands) may at some point become a more integral part of the EU, but not yet.

##European Economic Area

Outside the EU but within the single market.

Norway (plus Svalbard), Iceland, Liechtenstein and Switzerland

NO,SJ,IS,FL,CH

##Other Codes

Maxmind has an additional non-ISO code for "Europe", EU.

##Combined List

All the above places (excluding outermost regions) are in the following combined list in alphabetic order of ISO code. There are 43 codes. The same list in is the attached euiso.json file.

AD,AT,AX,BE,BG,CH,CY,CZ,DE,DK,EE,ES,EU,FI,FL,FR,GB,GG,GI,GR,HR,HU,IE,IM,IS,IT,JE,LT,LU,LV,MC,MT,NL,NO,PL,PT,RO,SE,SI,SJ,SK,SM,VA

As a PHP array: $eucodes = array("AD","AT","AX","BE","BG","CH","CY","CZ","DE","DK","EE","ES","EU","FI","FL","FR","GB","GG","GI","GR","HR","HU","IE","IM","IS","IT","JE","LT","LU","LV","MC","MT","NL","NO","PL","PT","RO","SE","SI","SJ","SK","SM","VA");

Corrections welcome!
