Dear Congressman and Staff,
The State of Texas has a rich and thriving economy. A key part of Central Texas's economy is technology based. Tech jobs are high paying and in high demand. I am not sure what your position is on SOPA so I am here to ask you respectfully to deny this legislation your support.
As a technologist, resident, and business owner in Cedar Park I am afraid of both what these bills are trying to do and the implications for future legislation. My career and business have been built on the free flowing ideas, software, and technologies of the Internet. The MPAA, RIAA, and similar associations have little understanding of technology and focus only on protectionism. This thinking opposed radio, cassette tapes, VCRs -- all with the fear tactics of ruining their industry.
The facts show the opposite trends. There are more movie theaters than ever before. The studios continue to set and reset records every year. It's never been easier to buy a song than by pulling up iTunes on your phone and spending a dollar. They are making money hand over fist, but still have a deep distrust for disruptive technology.
Theoretically SOPA has been "shelved" in the house, but PIPA is still alive in the Senate. I hope and trust that you'll stand with the budding technology sector of our part of Texas in vehemently opposing these bills.
Thank you for your continued service, Rod Paddock
