Opt-out company contacts and links

A list of companies associated with a variety of marketing practices that may need to be managed for seniors and other potentially vulnerable populations, including invocation of privacy, opt-out, or similar actions.

Coins / currency / metals

As some people age, they become disproportionately focused upon the idea of "preserving generational wealth" - of leaving something of value behind for their children, grandchildren, etc. A number of companies operate in a gray area that takes advantage of this focus by packaging or framing ordinary currency (such as presidential coins) and selling it at a dramatic markup. The sad truth is that the resale value of such coins is almost always little more than face value.

The companies that engage in this almost always clearly know exactly what they're doing, placing ads in media frequented by seniors (newspapers, Reader's Digest, Facebook, etc.) and using exactly the "pass it on to your kids" language necessary to extract the maximum amount of money from well-meaning grandparents - some of whom likely have early symptoms of dementia and are no longer able to discern the shady nature of the deals they are offered.

On the other side of the flow, other companies engage in paying pennies on the dollar for precious metals - again, capitalizing on the instinct to prepare for generational transfer of wealth, or in some cases as a way for seniors to fund dwindling retirement resources.

Not all companies that offer such "premium" packaging or metal services are truly predatory - but unfortunately, any sufficiently advanced marketing optimization is indistinguishable from predation. So for those of us charged with protecting the vulnerable, we have no choice but to treat all of them as eligible for opting out.
