Just some quick notes on how to create a hackathon, super simple really.
- Prepare one page summary of the event (Name, venue, audience numbers)
- Reach out to tech evangelist from various companies, offer 10 minutes to pitch their APIs (skype or in person)
- Reach out to influential hackers to be judges and includes sponsors
- Keynote from organizer
- Special guest (if any)
- Sponsors (5-10 mins each)
- Give hackers some motivation and go over the prizes and timeline!
- Start hacking and motivate
- Breakfast at 9-11am
- Hacking...
- Lunch at 12:30
- Quick check / roll call at 1pm / prepare hackers for demo at 4pm
- Give all hackers a heads up at 3pm
- Call all hackers to demo their apps at 3:50
- Announce the people presenting
- Give thanks to Sponsors again and remind hackers of the prizes
- Hackers take the stage (timed)
- Call the judges and judge
- Go back to the hackers and announce the winners! wooooohooo
- Give the winners feedback on why they won (judges can get involved here)
- Give the rest of the participants feedback (judges can get involved here)
- High five each other and go home
- Have twitter account for your event
- Create email list, so you can send updates
- Create github page/repo with details
- Post pictures, tweets videos during the entire event
- Hire someone to video tape the demos (if you get enough $$)
