PRODUCT PLAN: Wat Do? [Seattle]

Problem Statement

Sometimes it's hard to figure out what to do. The possibilities are endless, but sometimes it's hard to know what those possibilities are. The Wat Do app is a tool any user can use to randomly generate ideas for activity suggestions, based as many or as few filters as the user wishes to input.

##V1 Features:

  • User can simply push a button (filters optional) to randomly generate an activity suggestion
  • Activity results each have a name, image, description, price, activity level, and community rating
  • Users can suggest activities to add to the db
  • Users can sign-up/in (optionally with Google) and view their profile page
  • User profile page includes recent activities with ratings
  • User can sign up to recieve weekly email subscription suggestions and/or event invites
  • DB sample populated with sheet.js

##V2 Features:

  • Users can view newsfeed page, messages, event calendar, and forum
  • Disqus
  • Search Bar allows users to search for friends
  • Users can add friends
  • Users can upload images
  • Pagination on all relevant pages

##V3+ Features:

  • User email subscription suggestions are tailored to 'learn' what kinds of things user likes to do
  • Can create group events and invite and notify friends (users can sign up to receive event notifications)
  • Google Map API used to tell user distance from IP location to activity location
  • Optionally connects users to other users who have activity preferences in common
  • Provide an API for the DB
  • Google Calendar API integration
  • Google Map API integration
  • Gamification & Badges

Market Research

There are apps like Yelp and TripAdvisor that have communities and rate activities, and obviously there are many social networks. But this is the only social network that actually generates ideas and potentially connects users to one another based on activity prefrences.

User Personas

  • The Outdoor Enthusiast: This person is always looking for the newest adventure, but has a hard time trying to uncover the remaining hidden gems in Seattle, and sometimes has a hard time finding others on board who are equally adventurous. This app will help them accomplish all of those things.

  • The Tired, Busy, Nine-to-Fiver: This weekend warrior spends all week working hard and exhausting their brainstorming capabilities. When they finally get some free time on the weekend, they're too burnt out to think creatively and find something to do with their time off. By the time they think of a weekend trip, it's Sunday afternoon, and the chance is blown. Cue 'Wat Do,' the perfect idea generator for the uncreative but willing.

  • The Seattle Transplant: New to the area, with no friends and no idea what the city has to offer. This app offers the possibility to find both.

  • The Poor Student: It's a great, big, fantastic city, but everything is so expensive! Is there anything fun to do in this city that's also FREE? Wat-Do says yes!
