Hi, my name is Ma. Reina S. (29826). How may I help you? [12:26:30 PM]
Woody Gilk: Hello [12:26:40 PM]
Woody Gilk: I have a Linksys WET54G and i am trying to upgrade the firmware [12:26:51 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Hello, Woody! [12:27:31 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Before we proceed, may I ask which country you are located? [12:27:32 PM]
Woody Gilk: USA [12:27:07 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Please look underneath the device itself and get the Version number and the Serial Number (SN) of the WET54G. I need to verify that. [12:28:02 PM]
Woody Gilk: no version number [12:27:50 PM]
Woody Gilk: serial number is bdy003802478 [12:28:11 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Okay, it's version 1. Please hold on. [12:29:00 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): I need to inform you that based on the Serial Number, the device is already out of Warranty. However, I would still assist your with your concern. [12:29:23 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): The latest firmware for WET54G v1 is .2.06. [12:29:40 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Do you have the firmware already? [12:29:53 PM]
Woody Gilk: i am using Mac OSX 10.5, and there appear to be no downloads other than for Windows... i tried to use VWware to perform the upgrade, but it appears to have failed [12:29:24 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Did you try accessing the Setup page via wired connection? [12:30:13 PM]
Woody Gilk: my power light is blinking and i cannot connect to the 192.168.1.226 [12:29:46 PM]
Woody Gilk: yes [12:29:46 PM]
Woody Gilk: is there any way to perform the firmware upgrade using just OSX? maybe telnet/tftp? [12:30:48 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): No, I suggest that you do a firmware upgrade using the Windows computer, Sir. MAC may not work. [12:31:41 PM]
Woody Gilk: i have no windows computer... there are 4 macs in this house, no windows [12:31:26 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): I see. Do you think you can borrow a Windows computer so you can do the upgrade? [12:32:54 PM]
Woody Gilk: and as i said, i tried to use VMware to do the upgrade and it failed... now the upgrade utility just says "Please make sure the IP is the same subnet of your PC" [12:32:54 PM]
Woody Gilk: honestly, i really don't know where i could find a windows computer... all my friends use macs too [12:33:17 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Please set a Static IP Address on your computer:
IP:192.168.1.20
SubNet Mask : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway : 192.168.1.1 [12:34:12 PM]
Woody Gilk: i'm perfectly willing to use tftp to do the upgrade, if you tell me how [12:33:54 PM]
Woody Gilk: yes, i have assigned a static ip... 192.168.1.50 [12:34:10 PM]
Woody Gilk: other settings are the same [12:34:20 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): I that case, Sir, we cannot do anything about it. You really need to try a Windows computer. [12:36:00 PM]
Woody Gilk: that doesn't help me at all... as a networking company i find it slightly ridiculous that you _require_ windows to do anything [12:36:45 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): The router works best with Windows, Sir. That's why we need to try the Windows computer. [12:38:08 PM]
Woody Gilk: the route uses ethernet [12:38:00 PM]
Woody Gilk: which certainly does not require windows [12:38:08 PM]
Woody Gilk: please don't tell me something that is obviously false [12:38:22 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Please hold. [12:39:07 PM]
Ma. Reina S. (29826): Thank you for waiting, Sir. I verified this with my immediate superior but there is a compatibility issue with the Linksys devices and the MAC OS. Our routers are made for Windows that's why you need to use Windows computer in upgrading the firmware. [12:42:25 PM]
Woody Gilk: tell your superior and your co-workers that is unacceptable and i won't be purchasing Linksys products ever again... Cisco should be ashamed for buying Linksys [12:43:05 PM]
Woody Gilk: good day [12:43:06 PM]
'Woody Gilk' disconnected ('Concluded by End-user'). [12:43:15 PM]
