St Maarten-St Martin Guide

Cities

Dutch Side

  • Phillipsburg - Dutch side capital where the cruise ships dock.  Great duty free shopping and lots of restaurants, not a lot of nightlife. Great bay beach is here. Check out Front Street.
  • Simpson Bay - Dutch side, the crossroads of the island.  Has lots of restaurants, timeshare and is central to everything.  The major marina is here.
  • Maho - Dutch side.  Next to the airport.  Party central for the island.  Restaurants, casinos, bars, nightclubs.  Lots of action, lights and noise but very fun.   • Dawn Beach Eastern Dutch- French border. Quiet beach, nice villas, next to Westin but 15-30 min drive from everything.

French Side

  • Orient Bay - French side - Lots of restaurants and resorts, one of the island’s largest and most popular beaches.
  • Cupecoy / Lowlands.  French - Dutch border on the Northwest side of the island.  The golf course, Atlantis casino, some good restaurants and lots of expensive villas dominate this section of the island.
  • Marigot - French Capital.  Very Eurpoean feel with upscale shopping and dining at a more relaxed pace.  Nice marina and you can catch a ferry to anguilla St. Barths and other islands.
  • Grand Case. - French side.  Dining capital of the Caribbean.  Spend $5 for local BBQ or $100 for fine French Cuisine.  Both are worth it.

  • Anse Marcel **** - amazing beach bar w/frenchies
  • Baie Longue
  • Orient Beach **** - so beautiful!
  • Dawn Beach (Westin) ***

Beach Bars

  • Kokomo's *** - Cute restaurant and beach
  • Karakter (Simpson Bay) *** - tapas, yummy food, cheap drinks, by the beach
  • Calmos Cafe (Grand Case) *** - cute beach bar with a beautiful french beach
  • Buccaneer Beach Bar (Pelican Key)
  • Sunset Beach Bar (Maho) - drinks while watching planes land in Maho
  • Mary's Boon Beach Resort (Simpson Bay)
