Maui

Maui Guide

Beaches (** notes a must go!)

  • Napili Bay ** awesome beach, very swimmable. This one is one of my favorites!!! Enter through Napili bay resort. They also have a nice restaurant where you can get a bite to eat between sun bathing/swimming.
  • Kapalua - Neighboring beach to Napili Bay, we didn't make it to this one but really wanted to go. It's the beach at the Ritz Carlton
  • Kaanapali ** Lovely long stretch of beach, not too crowded.
  • Sugar beach - Super quiet beach
  • Keawakapu beach ** Less crowded version of Wailea beach
  • Mokapu beach park (in front of Andaz Maui)
  • Grand wailea - Good place to stop for lunch at a resort * crowded beach but nice and must see!
  • Poolenalena
  • Big beach / makena beach **
  • Makena cove / paako beach
  • Baldwin Beach (north side)
  • Secret beach in Wailea ** (https://www.google.com/maps/@20.6268885,-156.4429478,3a,75y,235.55h,64.96t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sNUjJcN4o47rBSgMQu0ypqA!2e0)

Parks

  • Pools at O'heo
  • Road to Hana
  • Iao Valley

Where to Eat

  • Ka'ana Kitchen @ Hyatt Andaz in Wailea (http://www.yelp.com/biz/kaana-kitchen-kihei-2) - Amaaaazing brunch (but expensive). Fresh juice bar won me over.
  • Morimoto's @ Hyatt Andaz in Wailea - Go for the delicious sushi and appetizers
  • Da Kitchen - Authentic and cheap hawaiian eats - there will be a wait but it's delish! Super close to airport.
  • Sansei - Two locations: Kapalua & Kihei - Thurs-Sat - 10pm-1am - 50% off ALL sushi (basically like Hawaii's sudachi)
  • Leilani's on the beach (open 11-11p) in Kaanapali - 3-5pm daily happy hour, taco tuesdays - $4 mai tais/margaritas/draft beer, $4 sliders -- They have delicious Lava Flows!
  • Kimo's in Lahaina - Get their Hula Pie!
  • Charley's - For breakfast before heading on Road to Hana
  • Mama's Fish House - yelp says it all http://www.yelp.com/biz/mamas-fish-house-restaurant-paia

Shopping

  • The Shops @ Wailea
  • Whalers Village @ Kaanapali

Neighborhoods

  • Wailea - Beautiful long stretch beach and resorts, tends to get crowded but sand is soft and lovely. Check out Andaz at Wailea (new!) hotel for access to delicious food and a not-so-crowded beach.
  • Kaanapali - Another beautiful long stretch of beach, resorts, shopping. Less crowded!
  • Lahaina - This is the main downtown-ish city area. Very safe, great walking area with lots of shops, restaurants and bars. You will be here most nights probably as Maui does close early :) Grab a shaved ice from Ululani's!
  • Road to Hana - This is a full day event, make sure it's not raining and don't lag too much because driving back in the dark tends to be dangerous. There's a lot of great hikes and the waterfall hike at the end is worth it! Be sure to have good hiking gear/shoes.
  • Paia - Really cute area, super chill/hippie town. Good food and lots of shops. This is a great stop to eat before heading on the Road to Hana because there's nothing else to eat after Paia. Restaurants: Charley's, Paia Fish Market, Flatbread for Pizza, Ono Gelato for ice cream!
  • Kihei - This is for nightlife/slightly "ghetto" but fun bars can be found here, also Sansei is here!

Luau

So there's two notable luau's in Maui: The Feast at Lele and Old Lahaina Luau. Get tickets ASAP as you will get better seating the earlier you buy then (vs getting them when you get there). Both luaus are all you can eat/drink. Lava flows galore :-) Old Lahaina Luau is more of a buffet, you eat first then watch a show. The Feast at Lele is a little more expensive but WORTH IT! This is the one we saw. They serve a 5 course meal and you will get meal then show, meal then show, meal then show, and so on. It's a nice way to get your courses and break up the awesome show and it all happens as the sun sets with the ocean behind you. My favorite by far!
