Skinnay's Classic Hunter Gear Lists (Alliance)

  • "True" BiS is the absolute best gear configuration given all the possible options. Often this doesn't give you a great picture of what you should be striving for, so realistic alternative sets are provided to plan for constraints that can occur with typical loot distribution.
  • Stat weights and dps values are based on Sixx's DPS sheet assuming full buffs, consumables, and boss debuffs with 20/31/0 spec, unless otherwise specified. These are of course subject to change with different variables.
  • Gear lists are based on their general effectiveness against all raid bosses as opposed to being tailored for specific bosses, unless otherwise specified.

Normal Ranged rotation

Pre-raid P4

  • The power of Trueaim Gauntlets is due to how weapon skill is calculated against lvl 63s and raid bosses specifically. You may want to use devilsaur set and less hit gear for dungeons and other purposes.

Phase 3

  • The dps provided by 5/8 tier set bonuses is situational and cannot be quantified, so it is not included in the dps calculations, but should be taken into consideration.
  • Replacing Elven Ring with Master Dragonslayer's Ring is a minor upgrade, but not really worth getting considering that it is easily replaceable, while the neck from the quest is PvP bis.
  • Full T2 sets do not include the debuff in the listed DPS, but it contributes roughly 9 dps per hunter on average, with large variance. i.e. ~90 dps for the 7 second duration of the buff with an average 10% uptime.

Phase 5

  • Due to the release of powerful new Use: trinkets, I'm no longer bothering to include DFT sets.
  • Cloak of the Fallen God is the BiS cloak, but unrealistic due to the other quest rewards (particularly the caster ring), so Cloak of the Shrouded Mists is used if you do not need the hit in that slot.
  • In the transition from ZG ring set before you have gotten Godslayer, it is worth it to break the set for the Neutral signet if you have CoaF, or Exalted signet with Seal of Jin.

Melee weave rotation

  • P3 and P4 assume 13/31/7 spec, while P5 and P6 assume 20/31/0, based on whether Slaying talents affect the raid bosses of those phases.

Key differences for gear configurations:

  • Agility weight relative to AP is lower than for pure ranged.
  • Hit is now split into 2 parts, where the ranged hit scope, ranged weapon skill, and ranged AP are a bit less valuable, and you can still get some value from melee hit past the ranged cap. (e.g. 37 AP per hit = 32 per ranged hit + 5 per melee hit).
  • Strength and melee AP are worth a small amount.

Phase 3 Realistic T2 is only 8% hit. Is this supposed to be correct? 20/31/0 and 8% hit for the Phase 3 Realistic T2? Is this actually good? I thought hunter need 9% hit. Thanks!

Yes, in terms of dps it's correct, there is no good way to fit in an extra hit except for Band of Accuria (or Rune of the Guard Captain for Horde). If you need the hit for tranq shot, you can switch to Tooth of Eranikus for that fight.

Curious to know what changes for horde. No kings, but gain windfury/air. If you have time could you come up with a gear ranking for horde side?

How does it calculate if you have more than 1 hunter with T2, is it plus 9 per tier set or does it decrease? Guess it does eventually since you would eventually overcap with to many, unrealistic ofc

For phase 5, what do you think about Belt of Never-ending Agony? Hunter may not get prio on it but I think it deals more dps than Ossirian's Binding.

Uneducated raid leader here. Is there a scenario where a hunter would want +7 damage and DFT and forego the hit scope? I did not see DFT on the list and assume there is a reason for that.

Especially with all the trinkets available now by phase 5, there is very little use for DFT on hunters. It's rogue or main tank prio imo.

Is Badge of the Swarmguard better than using like ZG trinket? How good is it?

How good Badge is depends on the armor of your target(s), and you can stack it with Renataki's and other use trinkets.

In your P6 bis lists, swapping Iblis for Harbinger of Doom seems to give an additional 0.2 dps. Either I made a mistake in the sheet somewhere, or kings+zandalar gives it a slight edge.
Stat weight in the sheet was 3.48 ap per 1 agi, giving Harbinger an equivalent of 27.84 ap vs the 26 of Iblis
