The Quarterly Report issued in October 2011 by the Special Inspector General of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) reveals the utter lack of oversight and mismanagement of funds in excess of $700 Billion Dollars. The 316 page report begins:

Through the Troubled Asset Relief Program (“TARP”), the American taxpayers became investors in hundreds of financial institutions, the auto industry, and certain markets for asset-backed securities, and the Office of the Special Inspector General for the Troubled Asset Relief Program (“SIGTARP”) serves on the front line to protect those investments. SIGTARP is the only agency solely charged with a mission of transparency, oversight, and enforcement related to the taxpayers’ unprecedented investment of hundreds of billions of dollars in the private sector…. This month…the first criminal charges were filed against senior executives of a TARP bank when two senior executives of United Commercial Bank (“UCB”) were charged in connection with an alleged scheme to defraud investors. The Department of Treasury (“Treasury”), and by extension the American taxpayer, became investors in UCB’s holding company when it received more than $298 million in TARP funds. UCB was the first TARP bank to fail and the taxpayers’ entire TARP investment is lost.

TARP included $45.6 Billion to fund the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) of which only $2.5 Billion (5.4%) has been spent. SIGTARP addressed its concerns about the poor performance of the HAMP program to the Treasury Department, but states that “Treasury has determined not to take any further action to implement SIGTARP’s recommendations. Treasury is giving up a chance at meaningful change and sadly, it is struggling homeowners who have the most to lose.”

The housing and mortgage crisis was a direct result of the increasing deregulation of the mortgage industry enabled by the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 and the federal government’s ideological philosophy that everyone should and must be afforded their dream of home ownership, regardless of their credit worthiness or their ability to repay the mortgage. The federal government, through coercive threats of lawsuits for discriminatory lending practices, forced these lenders to make these risky loans.

The feeding frenzy of easy money, teaser interest rates, one hundred percent financing (generally involving two mortgages, a first mortgage for eighty percent of the purchase price and a second for the remaining equity, thereby eliminating the necessity for private mortgage insurance), no income or asset verification of the homebuyer and, in many cases where homebuilders were involved, up to one full year of mortgage payments paid in advance by the builder at closing in addition to the payment of all of the closing costs, increased the demand for new homes and drove up home prices. An additional caveat of the 80/20 scheme eliminated the requirement that the homebuyer escrow money with the lender for payment of property taxes and homeowners insurance. This resulted in massive losses of revenue at the city, county and state level.

These lenient policies precipitated the crash of the housing market and resulted in the loss of jobs for tens of millions of “innocents” involved in ancillary businesses affected by the crash.

Efforts under the former Bush Administration and the current Obama Administration to “fix” the mortgage crisis have failed miserably. Billions of dollars have been taken out of our pockets, or borrowed on our futures, to bail out privately owned banks and corporations that were considered “too big to fail”. The taxpayers had no say in the government’s actions in the TARP or in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), also known as the “Stimulus Bill”.

The first wave of mortgage defaults involved many home buyers who never intended to stay in their homes once they were required to begin making payments. Many more have been caught in this crisis through no fault of their own. They put money down on their homes and qualified with good credit histories and scores, good jobs and income, but now find themselves unemployed or underemployed.

It is time that these lenders show their gratitude to We the People for bailing them out. All of these mortgages should be modified to interest only payments of one or one and a half percent. If this were done for five years, people would be able to keep their homes, investors could rent their properties with positive cash flow, money would be flowing into the economy, property values would increase and the market would rebound. I am not one to force a policy or mandate on any entity or individual, but we must remember that we were forced to mortgage our futures and the futures of our children and grandchildren without any say in the matter. We lost trillions of dollars in property value and in our savings and retirement accounts.

The programs offered by the administration have not produced any positive results for the people of this country. The SIGTARP report clearly reveals the arrogance of the Treasury Department in refusing to heed its recommendations to help struggling homeowners. It is Big Government that created this problem. It is time We the People got our bail out.

Think class warfare will convince Ohio to retain America's most liberal Senator, a freshman who rode into Washington on a 2006 Democrat wave in the Buckeye State? Not if I have anything to say about it.

Sherrod Brown (D-OH) is the most liberal member of the United States Senate, according to NationalJournal vote rankings. Senator Brown supports the freaks of Occupy Wall Street, opposes free trade, and was the deciding vote for Obamacare.

That vote could be… problematic, as explained by likely 2012 challenger Josh Mandel:

We must not overlook the truly significant blow that Ohioans dealt Obamacare last week, with a mix of 2.2 million Democrats, Republicans and Independents rejecting this intrusion on individual liberty and family control over health care decisions.

Indeed, you would be pressed to find a statist boondoggle Sherrod Brown doesn’t love. Check out this rant from a Q&A session Sherrod held this spring with Ohio’s largest government union:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=LOxe7Hs5Q5s

According to Senator Brown, privatization is always driven by “greed” and always makes “the services get worse.” Hearty red meat for a government union crowd, but keep in mind this was an unscripted response. Bigger government, higher taxes, and demonizing The Rich are the only things Sherrod knows.

Sadly for Sherrod, every county in Ohio voted to amend the state constitution against Obamacare’s individual mandate – even after a $30 million Progressive smear campaign against union reform. With huge turnout for an off-year election, the citizen-driven Health Care Freedom Amendment passed by a wider margin than the union issue failed! Brown claims the amendment was “confusing,” which would be a great explanation for the opposite result.

Think class warfare will convince Ohio to retain America’s most liberal Senator, a freshman who rode into Washington on a 2006 Democrat wave in the Buckeye State? Not if I have anything to say about it.

“Workers of the World Unite”

Karl Marx, the infamous German political philosopher had a vision. Marx, together with Joseph Engles predicted and even called for the dismantling of capitalist economic systems worldwide into a socialist and ultimately classles communist World. 24thState will be asking the question of the late Mr. Marx, “How is that working out for you?”

In a series of columns, we will expose the 5th column in the United States. We will name names and expose the ties from David Axelrod, who just visited St. Louis referring to some GOP presidential contenders as “nutty folks“, to active marxists and communist party loyalists in Congress and even the Missouri General Assembly. We will expose their plans and how even their favorite Republican member of Congress (yes, they have one) works to fulfill them.

If we contemplate for a second, whether it is realistic to assume that the marxists quit being marxists, in Russia, China and even the U.S., can we assume that the workers of the world decided to not unite? Did they pack up their tents and go home? Are Russian and Chinese leaders relinquishing power and creating new constitutional republics? Did the Communist Party USA shut their doors or just change their tactics? The answers to these questions are unquestionably obvious but uncomfortable to contemplate.

First published in 1848, the Manifesto had ten very specific goals (briefly examine their progress in the U.S. here). The most alarming tenet however, may be the assertion that communism will never really work until the entire World is communist. In other words, the true believers have a duty to spread it. What then is the duty of those opposed to it? What is IT?

Another alarming tenet of marxism is the Machiavelian notion that the idea is so important and people so naturally resistant, that deception, progaganda and assorted treachery are not just hallmarks, but mandates. The history of their “class struggle” shows us their conviction that some must die. We wonder if Marx and Engles would have desired that upwards of 100 million should die. When you add up the slaughter of the “less usefull” of the “usefull idiots” in the lexicon of the Leninists, we have over 35 million human beings “sacrificed” for the cause in Russia alone. Add in Pol Pot, Castro, Chairman Mao and the estimated 3.5 million dead and still dying daily in North Korea, utopia has what most of us would view as one unacceptably high price. Some evidently are so untroubled by that legacy that they seek to spread the ideology of death despite the clear and modern existence of communist regimes like North Korea which kills people daily. Where are the calls of the marxists of the world for North Korea to stop killing people? Where are the calls of the leftists in Congress to China to stop paying bounties on escaped North Koreans who are sent back to die? The deafening silence is the natural sign of an allied relationship. The hard leftists view China as the partner.

If you ask a naval admiral who he or she fears the most, you will here it is China. The backwards marxist state turned economic super power also has the most treacherous anti-ship missile known to man. Their spies have surpassed the Russians in both U.S. Government and corporate espionage. Worse, China and Russia have formed a miliary alliance even bringing Pakistan into their military alliance; the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation.

So if Russia and China are the first two columns allied against us, East and West, and Cuba and Venezuella make up the third column, certainly radical Islam is the fourth. We know that they work together allying against our interests around the World, against any civil, peaceful nation that is not communist or radicalized Islamist. So could the U.S. suffer a fifth column? Of course we could. Is it radical Islamic terror cells, marxists, or both? If they are here, what goals would they have? Disarming us, maybe?

So while we bask in the blissful ignorance that the Cold War is over and China is our friendly neighborhood banker ever since Nixon went there, the Islamists, and communists among us are working for “change“. What are they changing? We know that the Democrats had two non-negotiable demands out of the failed budget deal: tax increases and military decreases. Do we have your attention yet?

There are certain “types” of people who are just not allowed to be conservative. You know what I’m talking about. For example, a certain African American Supreme Court Justice will always be the subject of bilious contempt because he holds legal and constitutional views that differ from what a black public servant is expected to hold.

We saw this dynamic play out recently in the Washington Post’s vicious and sloppy attack on Sen. Marco Rubio. Rubio is, of course, a quickly rising star in the Republican Party; one with broad – even national – appeal. Clearly the left knows the threat Sen. Rubio presents to its grip on Hispanic voters, so they felt it necessary to muddy him up with a shoddy news story questioning his family story.

Now come the attacks on New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez. The attacks on Martinez are much subtler than those on Sen. Rubio, but no less dangerous if left unanswered. They come in the form of a pervasive rumor about her family origins; a rumor that has been reported uncritically by the mainstream media, including the New York Times.

Here we have a popular and successful Latina politician with a bold, conservative agenda in an important swing state. As far as the mainstream media is concerned, there has to be a catch.

“Ms. Martinez, who grew up along the border, is also Mexican-American, with news reports since her election revealing that her paternal grandfather came to the United States as an illegal immigrant,” wrote Marc Lacey in a New York Times profile three months ago.

“…The New Mexican’s Sandra Baltazar Martínez reported recently, at least two of the governor’s grandparents also were [undocumented immigrants],” wrote the Santa Fe New Mexican in a recent editorial.

Lest you be under any illusions about the nature and motives of these news items, bear in mind that Gov. Martinez wants to roll back certain of her predecessor’s policies regarding illegal immigration in New Mexico, most notably, a policy that allows illegal immigrants to secure drivers licenses. “The governor’s opponents have pointed to her immigrant grandparents as an example of why New Mexico should welcome illegal immigrants and continue to allow them to get a driver’s license,” reports the Associated Press.

Obviously, the stage is set for the media and her political rivals to paint Gov. Martinez as a hypocrite and a traitor to her people.

There’s only one problem: The story about Martinez’s grandparents is junk. The Governor’s grandparents were not U.S. citizens, but they were most certainly not illegal immigrants.

According to Barry Massey of the Associated Press:

The 1930 U.S. census has been cited in published reports as indicating the governor’s grandparents were illegal immigrants. However, the census only records they were not U.S. citizens at the time they were living in El Paso. The census used a code, “AL” to designate they were “aliens,” meaning they were not citizens and had not filed papers declaring their intent to become citizens. It does not indicate their immigration status or whether they were living in the United States legally, according to historians and immigration experts.

Two experts quoted in Massey’s story make it clear that Martinez’s grandparents lived well within the law at the time.

“There was no such thing as an undocumented immigrant during that time” in the American Southwest, said [immigration law expert and director of the Institute of Higher Education Law & Governance at the University of Houston Michael A.] Olivas, a Santa Fe resident. “There was no secure Mexican border and people came and went with no problem.”

The census lists 1910 as the year Martinez’s grandfather, Adolfo Martinez, immigrated to the U.S. He worked as a taxi driver and spoke English. Her grandmother, Francisca Martinez, came to the U.S. in 1915, according to the same census document.

Her grandparents had U.S. government permits to cross the border on several occasions, according to documents provided to the AP by the governor’s political committee. They were dated from 1908 through 1931, and several were issued by the U.S. Department of Labor’s immigration service.

“So he understood the process and seemed to have followed the process,” the governor said of her grandfather.

Guadalupe San Miguel, Jr., a history professor at the University of Houston and a noted scholar of Mexican-American history, said it wasn’t until a 1924 federal law outlined rules for immigrants with proper documents.
“But they did not apply the law to people from the Western Hemisphere,” said San Miguel. “It only applied to people from Europe, Africa and Asia, for example.”

Gov. Susana Martinez doesn’t fit into the box in which the mainstream media and the political left would like to contain her. So naturally, they will endeavor to bring her down. But the potentially damaging narrative about Gov. Martinez’s grandparents is a bogus myth.

On the same day that the Supreme Court announced that it would take up the challenge to President Obama’s healthcare reform law, Kathleen Sebelius, secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) launched the Health Care Innovation Challenge, a competitive program that will award up to $1 billion in taxpayer-funded grants to applicants who will “implement the most compelling new ideas to deliver better health, improved care, and lower costs to people enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP…” At a press conference, on Monday, Ms. Sebelius said, “Efforts like these to improve the health of communities and reduce cost while sparking the economy are a priority of the Obama administration.”

Using the Obama administration’s new theme of “We Can’t Wait,” a slogan which refers to Congress’ inability to obtain the votes to pass the president’s Jobs Act, the secretary said, “In recent weeks, Congress has failed to act on the full jobs agenda, so we will continue to do what we can.”

A new Rasmussen poll, however, indicates that most American voters oppose the Obamacare jobs plan, and believe the president should wait to enact the plan in order to reach an agreement with Congress. 63% of those polled said that the president should wait to work with Congress.

Once again, the effort on the part of the Obama administration is an incredible usurping of congressional power, and serves to illustrate how the wide banner of Obamacare will ultimately be used as a shield for many purposes that have little to do with the actual delivery of healthcare. All the more reason for Americans to demand that Obamacare be suspended entirely until the Supreme Court delivers its ruling next year.
