AMD GPU Driver Stability Report (Windows):

This page is a general stability report and / or cautionary tale showing how stable or buggy AMD GPU Drivers on Windows can be based on my own personal experiences over the years with Daily driving AMD Hardware.

Note: All AMD Drivers installed after 23.2.2 will be clean installed via DisplayDriverUninstaller (DDU) in Safe Mode Prior to testing to ensure accurate results, due to AMD Disabling the "Factory Reset" option in the Driver installer as of Driver 23.3.1

Testing Hardware:

  • RX 6800XT (NAVI 21)
  • RX 6800M (NAVI 22)
  • RX 6600XT (NAVI 23)
  • AMD Custom 0607 (Van Gogh) (Steam Deck)

    • Note: This device will not be tested very often as Linux seems to provide a better experience in general, as well as Valve only seems to officially support 1 or 2 versions of the Customized AMD Driver per year, if they ever update the AMD Driver at all. Currently 22.10.2 is what the Custom driver uses, according to my findings.

Issues Encountered:

  • Omni-Present Issues that never seem to be fixed:

    These are issues that seem to just exist in every driver version released, dispite what "Known issues" or "Fixed Issues" says on AMD's Driver release notes.

    Issue: Driver Versions: Acknowledged by AMD: Forgotten by AMD?:
    A Random, and very faint Red bar appears slightly to the right of the mouse, when mouse enters graphically accelerated window, (usually Chromium based windows) on secondary monitors. VERY Minor bug, but never seems to be fixed. 21.10.2 - Current ❌ N/A
    A Random audible tone can be heard when scrolling down on webpages or random games, etc. 21.10.2 - 22.10.2 (Disappeared), Reappeared sometime after 23.2.2+ ✅ ✅

  • 23.2.2 (WHQL)

    GPU: Issue: Personal Notes: Known by AMD?
    RX 6800XT Brief display corruption may occur when switching between video and game windows on some AMD Graphics Products The Bottom of Windows when GPU Accel is enabled on Chromium Based Browsers & Applications will sometimes flicker with green bars. ✅
