Portugal Recs from Mindy

Okay, here are some things. Let me know if there's anything more specific you're looking for recommendations for!

  1. Pasteis de Belem. The most delicious pastries in the world. If you google anything about Lisbon, this will be the first on the list. What you need to know though is that when you get there, it looks small and has a long line coming out of it. That’s usually the line to order things to go. Look for a separate sign/door that will take you to the line inside to get a table. It’s actually very big inside and you’ll enjoy taking your time sitting down and eating the pastries. The signature pastel de belem or pastel de nata is hands down the best. I eat at least 3 every time I go
  2. Walking by the river is really nice. I would start either at the Torre de Belem or this monument and walk towards the bridge. If you walk long enough you’ll get to the the plaza downtown (which you should definitely go to as well!)
  3. Rooftop bars for sunset drinks are pretty big and there are some good ones, can't think of any by name though.
  4. The Timeout market is a great place to get food. I wouldn't go with too big of a group though because it's crowded and difficult to get a lot of seats together.
  5. This is my favorite beach but it might be more difficult to get to. It is amazing to spend the day there, eat on the beach, and watch the sunset. This restaurant is good on the beach. Some of my favorite traditional dishes are grilled fish with potatoes and ameijoas a bulhao pato (clams in a white wine and cilantro sauce. The clams are great but then dipping fresh bread in the sauce might be even better than the clams)
  6. Restaurants: Cantinho de Avillez, Ramiro , (if you like seafood, Anthony Bourdain visited this restaurant in one of his shows...my husband loves to talk about it lol). Solar dos presuntos (pricier option)
