Setup

  • Make a copy of the entire directory
  • In the copied directory, uninstall any tile packs (i.e. [Graphics]->ASCII Default, then Install and Update Saved Game in the LNP)

Configure DF

  • Install the new version of DF in a new directory
  • Copy $DF/data/sava/regionN from the copy made in the Setup above into the matching directory in the new install
  • Re-install the tileset for the new version of DF.
  • Apply any changes to data/init/init.txt, data/init/d_init.txt and data/init/interface.txt (Or change and save setting in the LNP launcher)
  • Launch the new version and make sure that everything is sane

Post-finish

  • Delete the copy you made in Setup
  • Archive the previous version of the game forever. You never know how you, the game, or a utility just fucked you.
  • You are now done. 🍻
