Some more comments from me

  1. Make realize() more consistent with rest of api. Maybe rename to run() or use similar name to other lazy apis like Dasks compute()
  2. On https://docs.esmvaltool.org/projects/ESMValCore/en/latest/recipe/overview.html?highlight=ancestor#ancestor-tasks it says that a script can also be an ancestor. At the moment only VariableGroups can be ancestors. How would you make a script an ancestor?
