Here is a recipe for a dish called "faux-rogies" that is inspired by pierogies but uses a few different ingredients:
Faux-rogies | |
Ingredients: | |
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup water | |
1/2 tsp salt | |
1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese
1/4 cup diced cooked ham
1/4 cup diced cooked potatoes
1/4 cup frozen peas, thawed
1 egg, beaten | |
2 tbsp butter | |
1/4 cup sour cream | |
Instructions: | |
In a medium bowl, combine the flour and salt. Slowly add the water, stirring until the dough comes together in a ball. Knead the dough for a few minutes until it is smooth and elastic.
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. On a floured surface, roll each piece into a thin circle.
In a small bowl, mix together the cheddar cheese, ham, potatoes, and peas. Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of each dough circle. Fold the dough over the filling and press the edges together to seal the faux-rogies.
In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook the faux-rogies for about 5 minutes, or until they float to the surface.
In a small pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the beaten egg and cook, stirring constantly, until the egg is fully cooked.
To serve, place a few faux-rogies on a plate and top with a spoonful of sour cream and some of the scrambled egg. Enjoy! |
