Company Description

Do you want to make the Internet better? We do too. And we’re always looking for people with great ideas. We need free spirits and straight shooters. Creatives and critics. Nerds with nerve. People who love the Internet, but can see its cracks… and future, too. At AOL we’re focused on radically redefining the world of online communications. We are transforming how people around the globe connect with information, entertainment and one another by bringing together award winning journalists and innovative technologies to create rich and engaging consumer experiences. We look for people who are exceptionally imaginative, collaborative, and truly excited about our mission - to inform, entertain and connect the world.

Job Description

The AOL Media Platform team is growing!

We are looking for experienced and dedicated senior Software Engineers with expertise in PHP, JavaScript, and related web technologies. Location is flexible.

Are you interested in working on a platform that serves a billion hits in a month? How about in a day? Or an hour? AOL is looking for the right people to join the AOL Media Platform team and help drive the future of sites like Engadget, Autoblog, and AOL.com.

How We Work:

We are a lean and entrepreneurial team. We own the whole software development lifecycle from concept to release. We are architects, engineers, QA analysts, release managers, and problem solvers. We believe in our product and work tirelessly to balance performance, quality, and time to ship.

We do cool stuff with PHP, Node.js, Angular, MySQL, Vertica, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, AWS and way too many other shiny objects to list.

Qualifications
  • You are a skilled engineer who never shies away from a chance to learn something new, help a teammate, or make life better for the customer.
  • You understand common design and architectural patterns and know when and why to use them.
  • You own your mistakes and always learn from them.
  • You’re as comfortable with OOP as you are with procedural and functional paradigms.
  • You have experience building systems that are reliable and perform under pressure. You understand that milliseconds count and you know how and when to count them.
  • You care about what you do and how you do it. You collaborate with honesty, work with integrity, and communicate with empathy.
  • You know what readable code is. You know how to refactor and you’re not afraid of getting your hands dirty.
  • You understand front-end architecture and development both with frameworks and with vanilla JS.
  • You get why testing is important and you know how to build automated tests.
  • You are passionate about shipping software that makes a difference for your customers.
  • You speak ops. We have amazing ops specialists, but holding your own in discussions about MySQL tuning, Apache configuration, and AWS deployments is vital.
  • You aren’t a ninja. We need engineers that like to be seen and heard.
