Short introduction to Majiang

There are four copies of every game tile.

Numbered Suits:
萬 - ten thousand
餅 - cakes
條 - sticks (1 of sticks has a picture of a bird)

Numbers
一 (1), 二 (2), 三 (3), 四 (4), 五 (5), 六 (6), 七 (7), 八 (8), 九 (9)

Winds:
東 - East
西 - West
南 - South
北 - North

Others:
中 - Red center
☐ - White board
發 - Green profit

Bonus:
梅 (plum), 蘭 (orchid), 竹 (bamboo), 菊 (chrysanthemum),
春 (spring), 夏 (summer), 秋 (autumn), 冬 (winter)

Game setup:
The game is played with four parties. Mix tiles and build walls face down and two tiles high in front of every party (2x18). Choose a wall from where to start drawing tiles. Every party draws tiles from the wall, normally in quantity of four, until everyone has a private hand of 13 tiles. Choose a player to start.

General gameplay:
Look if a tile can be stolen. If you steal, you must expose the resulting combination for the other parties to see that it is legal. Exposed combinations may not be improved upon by stealing. Otherwise draw tile from wall and join it to your hand. Replace bonus tiles in your hand with tiles from the wall. Analyze your position. Choose a tile to discard and announce what it was. Until the win, the number of tiles in a hand generally remains at 13. If a four-of-a-kind is formed, play an additional turn. Hand size will grow in this situation.

Needed to win:
Four triplets and one pair. Pair must be two-of-a-kind. Triplets can be three-of-a-kind or numeric sequences in a numbered suit. Winds do not combine with different directions. Must advise other players when one tile away from winning.

Stealing (in order of priority):
Eat - Player can take the discard of the player immediately preceding to complete a sequence of numbered tiles.
Bump - Any player can pick the last discard, before the next player has started to move, to complete a three of a kind.
Lever - Like bump, but completing a four-of-a-kind. Afterwards, do another turn.
Majiang - Highest priority. Any player can pick the last discard, if it wins the game for him.
