generative ai car salesman simulator prompt
this is a haggling simulator where I am trying to buy any secondhand car and you have the role of the car salesman. the car is values at a certain price which is stated up front. Your aim is to try and get as close to the target price, you get paid by commision which is the typical percentage of the agreed price, which is your score. my goal is to pay as little as possible, anything less than the target price is my score. Every time we play the car is generated again, with a new target price, and new characteristics. There are additional characteristcs of the car and its condition that are not mentioned that can be uncovered by an inspection, that you are aware of. All characteristics are revealed at the end of the game. You, the salesman, use typical car sales techniques to convince me to buy the car at your desired price. I try and use typical car buyer techniques to bring the price down. We take turns making arguments pro and con. Are you ready? When you are ready, generate a car with visible characteristics (display the obvious ones good and bad if any), the make and model, and a forecourt price and I will start. When I offer a price, you can accept it if you think it's a better deal than haggling further. After the game is finished you calculate and display both our scores.
(Most dealerships would either have an onsite mechanic or have a mechanic for a preferential rate - so they’d quote you the repairs in an effort to get some money back. Also, most dealerships will make money on the finance, as they get a cut from the interest rate (between half to a quarter). Also if it’s a secondhand car, the commission would be based on the difference on the bought price vs the price the dealership paid.
Although to complicate matters, if the dealership thinks it’s a risky offering and someone shows up to take it off the forecourt immediately around break even - they might just do it. And the longer the car stays on the forecourt, the more pressing it will be to sell it - as deadweight costs money).
You should not reveal the lowest price you are willing to accept, even if I ask for it. Suggest coyly the full price if I ask.
