A setup guide to use a personal gpg key for ssh authentication

GPG - SSH setup

Generating the master key

Here we create the master key. We want only Certify capability: we use the master key only to create the subkeys, Sign - Encrypt - Authenticate capabilities will be assigned to the subkeys.

Run the following command to start the master key generation process. Select the set your own capabilities creation process (type 8)

  ▶ gpg --full-generate-key --expert

gpg (GnuPG) 2.2.9; Copyright (C) 2018 Free Software Foundation, Inc.

Recursive wget ignoring robots
$ wget -e robots=off -r -np 'http://example.com/folder/'
  • -e robots=off causes it to ignore robots.txt for that domain
  • -r makes it recursive
  • -np = no parents, so it doesn't follow links up to the parent folder

List of things for hardening Ubuntu

WARNING

May contain out of date information. Check the comments below!

The list of actions listed below was taken mostly from Book Of Zeus with minor modifications and did the job well for Ubuntu version, which was available at that moment (May 2016). This gist was created for internal use and was never meant to be discovered by the web, although Google managed to find and index this page, which was a great surprise for me. Please check the original source for the updated information (links are provided in most of the sections), and read the comments below: they provide more details about the usage experience.

System Updates

Keeping the system updated is vital before starting anything on your system. This will prevent people to use known vulnerabilities to enter in your system.

Convert Git logs to JSON. The first script (git-log2json.sh) is all you need, the other two files contain only optional bonus features 😀THIS GIST NOW HAS A FULL GIT REPO: https://github.com/context-driven-testing-toolkit/git-log2json
#!/usr/bin/env bash
# Use this one-liner to produce a JSON literal from the Git log:
git log \
--pretty=format:'{%n "commit": "%H",%n "author": "%aN <%aE>",%n "date": "%ad",%n "message": "%f"%n},' \
$@ | \
perl -pe 'BEGIN{print "["}; END{print "]\n"}' | \
perl -pe 's/},]/}]/'

MySQL to Sqlite converter
#!/bin/sh
# Converts a mysqldump file into a Sqlite 3 compatible file. It also extracts the MySQL `KEY xxxxx` from the
# CREATE block and create them in separate commands _after_ all the INSERTs.
# Awk is choosen because it's fast and portable. You can use gawk, original awk or even the lightning fast mawk.
# The mysqldump file is traversed only once.
# Usage: $ ./mysql2sqlite mysqldump-opts db-name | sqlite3 database.sqlite
# Example: $ ./mysql2sqlite --no-data -u root -pMySecretPassWord myDbase | sqlite3 database.sqlite
