A good year for reading apart from a giant hole betwen July and November (I was playing Elite Dangerous on the PS4. I don't usually do video games, but this one caught me for awhile.)

  • I enjoyed the Southern Reach trilogy. I liked the middle story the most of the three. The Annihilation movie didn't get very good reviews but I liked it quite a bit. The movie tells a slighty different story than the novel that diverges as the movie goes on.
  • I liked each of the Dark Forest books more than the previous.
  • I really liked When I'm Gone.
  • I remember really liking The Memory Keeper's Daughter while I was reading it, but now I barely remember it. I had to go to the wiki page to remind myself what it was about (it was about secrets and hard choices and not being able to come to grips with those choices.)
  • I really, really liked All the Pretty Horses. I wish I had read it in high school. I would have loved it 25 years ago.
  • Educated is a heck of a story. I don't think I've ever read a memoir (I'm a fiction kind of guy.) The memoir felt a little voyeristic at times. I can't believe what the author when through, or that she was able to pull herself out of an unbelievable situation. Of course, there is probably more to the story and I wonder if her upbringing helped her along more than the story lets on.
  • I've always wondered about canon. How We Got the Bible helped scratch that itch.
  • Love Sense, Created for Connection, Hold me Tight, and Extraordinary Relationships are all books about interpersonal relationships and were all recomended by my counselors.

I think I need to learn to read more critically. I rate each book as I finish reading it. Almost all these books have a rating of 4 out of 5. Surely there is more variety, right?
