My experience trying to find a plasma donor for a family member
-
Fragmented pan india help groups
- Better to group by city/town for plasma and blood requirements
- Spending energy to find someone from your city in a pan india group is not great
- No one is going to travel
- This is useful for medicines though
-
Outdated information and donor harassment
- Donor information from an year back still circulating
- Too many calls to people who've already donated
- This is donor harassment
- pandemic or not, this isn't acceptable
- a lot of donors' family is going through similar crisis
- last thing they want is overwhelming number of incoming calls
- A lot of numbers won't connect
- They probably changed their number after this experience
- No donor registration timestamps that I could find
- Bad if this information stays indefinitely
-
Incorrect and unverified information
- You guessed it right
- Unverified/fake whatsapp forwards
- Imagine your number being in the forwarded to unknown people 10K times per day
- Can we find out number of forwards?
- You guessed it right
-
Huge privacy concerns
- Few websites are throwing a bunch of results along with donor's personal numbers
- And these numbers start circulating in whatsapp forwards and the vicious cycle starts
- Number of female donors is negligible. No surprises there
- We might be loosing half of potential donors because of privacy issues
- Most of my financial and professional life is tied to my phone number
- No wonder people don't want put it out in the open
- Out of desperation I had to put my number out. Ideally, even as a recipient I wouldn't want that
- Few websites are throwing a bunch of results along with donor's personal numbers
-
No donors
- Stigma? Probably above issues?
- Few of my friends were holding off in case they need to donate for their family in future
- A lot of volunteer energy budget is probably being spent in coordinating and managing the chaos instead of reaching out and educating people to donate?
- Websites and apps are still very inaccesible to tech unsavvy
- This might be affecting a lot of donor signups
- No one will have the will to learn anything new in this shitty time
