terma dish recipe #1

Ingredients:

  1. Sausages my preferences I would recommend smt with pronounced taste as it adds a lot of flavor to potato
  2. Potato big one will be less work to do
  3. Sour Cream my preferences as option this one taste will be less flavor but more juicy and creame, so depends
  4. Cheddar my preferences Tillamuk
  5. Yellow Onion
  6. Salt
  7. Milled Black Pepper
  8. Sunflower oil or similar for frying

Ingredients for 4-5 people.

Amount based on recommended ingredients

  • Sausages 1 pack
  • Potatoes 5-7 big one diameter 3 in
  • Opnion 1 big one diameter 3 in
  • Cheddar 1/4 of lb
  • Sour Cream 1 jar
  • Peper and Salt just as any regular dish

Required tools:

  1. Cast Iron Pan example in theory it could be anything which can hold dish and stay in oven
  2. Knife
  3. Spoon

Recipe:

  1. Sausages
    1. Fry sausages on a pan with oil. Using a little bit more oil than required just for sausages rest will help for the rest of the dish. Fry sausages for 60-80%, they will be fully cooked later with the entire dish.
    2. Keep fried sausages on the pan, we will use this pan later.
  2. Preparation
    1. Cleanup potatoes
    2. Cleanup onion
  3. Open sour cream jar
    1. Start oven with baking mode and temperature 385F
  4. Layers, next list of steps we are going to repeat a few times this dish has multiple layers, I usually go with 4, last time for big company tried 5 in theory no limitation just amount of people and size of pan, but too many layers could be hard to cooked
    1. Slice potatoes pic, each slice 2-3 mm thick, like on picture if you slice very thin it will be hard to work with, too thick could be a little bit raw at the end for recommended timing
    2. Put on pan in one layer with some overlaps between potato like ½ in not very critical, first layer go directly on fried sausages
    3. Slice onion pic
    4. Put on a pan on potato (no suggestion use your taste and check recommended amount section above)
    5. Add salt
    6. Add pepper
    7. Equally distribute 2-3 drops of sour cream 1 in diameter on layer use different positions for next layers, not sure if this step is necessary, I always do that, from my point of view it helps multiple layers of potatoes cook well and stay juice
  5. When all layers done
    1. On the last layer put all the sour cream and smear equally
    2. Put lid on pan
  6. Main part of cooking
    1. Put pan in oven for 48 minutes
  7. Final steps
    1. When time is done, turn off oven but keep pan in oven
    2. Grate cheddar on a grater, use big holes 8 mm
    3. Extract pan from oven and open lid be careful it will be a lot of hot vapor
    4. Distribute all cheddar on top of it
    5. Put pan into oven for broil 500F for 6 minutes just to melt cheese for desired condition you can increase or reduce as you wish, main dish already completed
  8. You are done
