Post-grad job search
## #1: Job Search Plan/Schedule:
1. Design a 40-hour "work week" that provides time for:
Mornings:
* Workout daily - alternating between running and lifting weights
* Be in Denver at 8:45 to work. Code for 3 hours
* Spend no more than 20 mins reviewing new job postings prior to lunch hour
Afternoons:
* Spend 45 mins researching companies found in job postings
* Write cover letters/cold outreach emails. Goals of 3-4 emails and 1-2 job applications/cover letters submitted weekly
* Spend another 1 - 1 1/2 hours reviewing lessons from Turing io FE (starting with Mod1)
Evenings:
* Attend Built in Colorado events and other meetups
2. Backwards planning: What is your cut-off for ending the job search? When do you want to receive and sign an offer by?
Ideally, I would like to sign for a job in the next 30-60 days. I am very eager to work.
3. Based on what you outlined above, create monthly, weekly, and daily goals in order to reach your big goal.
Daily Goals:
* Working out and eating healthy everyday
* 8 hours of sleep per night
* More than 3 hours of coding
Weekly Goals:
* Apply to 1-2 jobs
* 3 - 4 outreach emails
* Attend 2 networking events
Monthly Goals:
* Complete 2 new projects that build on the foundation that was started at Turing.
5. What "barriers" tend to hold you back in the job search? What steps will you take to overcome those "barriers"?
In prior job searches, the biggest barrier in my job search as taking entirely too long to write cover letters. Although cover letters are very important, there comes a point of diminishing returns when it comes to writing them (for me, at least). I will overcome this barrier by sticking to my daily/weekly schedule.
## #2: Longterm Career Plan:
Ultimately, I would like to be a part of the AI or civic tech community.
Five years from now, I will be a Senior Engineer working in either AI or civic tech. I imagine that I'll feel more comfortable with whatever field/speciality I'm working in - however, I will always be making a true effort to push myself to feel uncomfortable and learn new things. I will be an even more involved member of the tech community, and I will use my position to help mentor/empower those who are new to the field.
I will achieve these goals by embracing uncertainty and continually pushing myself to have grit and agency.
My vision statement:
* I will continue to live in the five mindsets of growth, engagement, agency, empathy, and grit.
* I will read at least one new book per month to expand my way of thinking
* I will become a leader in whatever organizations where I belong so that I can play an integral part in building the organiziation and the people within it.
3. Reference what you outlined in your Flower Exercise -- what preferred level of responsibility do you want to move to? Do you want to start your own company? What kind of work do you see yourself doing longterm? In your first year on the job, what skills do you want to develop to work towards your longterm goals?
* Preferably, I would like to work somewhere where I have autonomy but could also contribute to a larger team. As a junior developer, I would expect that my level of responsibility would start off moderately and then grow as I continue to grow as I hone my skills.
### Side Hustle Plan
#### Community Involvement
I want to continue to be involved in and give back to the Turing Community of developers, specfically.
* Research at least 3 conferences you'd be interested in attending -- what would you get out of them? Do you want to speak at a conference at some point?
* Find 3 new meetups to join -- how could you contribute to those meetups?
* Write 3 new blog posts -- how can you share information with others?
