Parks

Volkspark am Weinberg

It’s relatively small by Berlin standards, but people like to grab a cold drink and sit on the hillside overlooking the pond.

Monbijoupark

It has a outdoor café along the river, across from the Bode Museum, that has a ballroom dancing floor. Great for people watching.

Park am Nordbahnhof

A former train yard turned into a park, which is mostly left wild. Great for walking or running.

Tiergarten

HUGE park with Brandenburg Gate, the Jewish Memorial, and the Reichstag at the East end, and on Sundays, there is a huge flea market at the West end.

Mauerpark

On Sundays, this place is dirty, crowded and absolutely unmissable. A crowd gathers at the amphitheatre for the outdoor karaoke, and there is a massive flea market too.

Arkonaplatz

This is quite a small park, which on Sundays is overtaken with a flea market (my favourite one) and tons of kids in the playground.

Volkspark Friedrichshain

Really big, really nice park with lots of hidden spots, including a restaurant / beer garden, and the “Märchenbrunnen” –– Fountain of Fairy Tales –– which is a popular spot for kids to play in on hot days.

Tourist spots in the area you may want to checkout out

  • Berlin Wall Memorial (just north of where you are staying)
  • Brandenburg Gate // Jewish Memorial (they are beside each other)
  • If you like architecture, walk along the Spree River from the Reichtag to Haus der Kulturen der Welt
  • Lustgarten and the Berliner Dom on Museum Island. For €7 you can go up the Dom
