TORONTO!
West Queen West
Nice street for walking. Arty furniture shops etc.
All close to each other:
Chippy's (fresh fish and chips)
Dufflet Cake (best cakes and tartlets anywhere I've EVER had. Recommend taking it to go since the coffee sucks)
Trinity Bellwoods Park
The Paper Place (nerd out about Japanese papers)
Type Books (http://www.typebooks.ca/)
Poutini's House of Poutine (never been cuz it's new).
Gladstone Hotel (They have a nice cafe for sitting. Nice venue for music. They have a bar in the evenings, I assume)
Other bars in that area:
Drake Hotel (though we always went to concerts in the basement. Never much liked the main floor bar)
Sweaty Betty (small, shabby chic opulent, specialise in Scotch)
Dakota (I've never been. Was new when I moved, but heard it's cool)
Chinatown (Spadina) and Kensington
Pho Hung (best pho. Second best avocado shakes. Xe Lua has the best avocado shakes)
Swatow (Kristin's all time favourite place for bbq pork noodle soup. Open very late.)
Rol San (dim sum to order)
Bright Pearl (dim sum by the cart)
Tap Phong (crazy selection of discount and wholesale household goods. Fun times for browsing for people who like to cook because they sell pots large enough to cook a person. Go here especially if your BnB is missing kitchen basics.)
Baldwin Street between Spadina and Augusta, and Augusta between Baldwin and College (where I used to do ALL my food shopping when I was a student)
Casa Acoreana (oh my god bulk everything. Lived and died for this place as a student foodie)
Jumbo Empandas (get extra salsa. Drool)
Somewhere on the rest side of August: a mexican grocery place that sells fresh made pupusas. (I recommend the chicken and cheese ones. You'll know the place by the cactus paddles for sale out front)
St Lawrence Market
Glorious food market :)
NOT OPEN MONDAYS
Sundays its a flea market
Of special interest:
Sausage King (many many kinds of fresh sausage)
Kozlik's Mustard (best selection of prepared mustard anywhere. Buy to eat with your sausages ;))
Churrasco Chicken (my favourite grilled chicken in the world)
Downstairs has the best place for produce
I suggest you go for lunch on a weekday and eat chicken, then shop for sausage, then buy mustards and veggies etc to complete the meal :)
Other restaurants:
Korea House on Queen Street
(or really, any one of the many Korean BBQ places)
Go hungry and order the all you can eat meat
Lahore Tikka Hut (best curry and naan in Toronto)
In Little India (Gerrard St)
Fun to check out the Indian shops around there.
Cafe Diplomatico (I recommend the calzone, sauce on the side)
In Little Italy (College St West)
Canoe
On the top floor of the TD Centre.
The place I'd tell @paulca or @aq to go. Must reserve to eat. Only open Mon-Fri.
The bar is cool (not cheap!) and you don't need to reserve.
Walking and biking
Toronto Islands (you have to take a ferry to get there)
Don Valley (bike paths are paved)
Lakeshore near Ontario Place
Hyde Park
Random other things:
Jet Fuel Coffee
The Beaches (Queen Street East)
Allen Gardens (free entrance indoor botanical gardens. Awesome on a cold or rainy day)
