#note #community This is a working list of vibe goals for the group house. This list is intended to be sent to potential house newcomers.

Hello human person! 👶🤖

This copy pasted textwall details our effort to create a group house at 2894 Bush! Because we believe that living with others can be the foundation of a rich social community, we're excited that you, a bona-fide Turing-test passing human, are curious about living here ✨

What we care about

We're trying to create a community of shared values at 2894 Bush. Below is a short list of values that we care about.

  • Desire to Learn and Build - We're nerds. We like learning and building new things. We like others who do also appreciate these things. We're partial to the idea that we could learn and build stuff together.
  • Playfulness - When we're not building and learning stuff, we like to play board games and throw parties, especially with unusual or challenging themes.
  • Prosocial systems-thinking - We like to see the world as a system, and ask how we can proactively improve that system for ourselves and others. The group house is a manifestation of that goal.
  • A balance of openness and criticality - We like to create and experience novelty. We dislike narrow Overton windows, and expect house members to engage one another in good faith. On the other hand, the house is a see nonsense, say nonsense zone: openness does not imply that everything goes. Which takes us to...
  • Emotional maturity (communication skills/self-knowledge/boundaries etc.) - The house is a socially happenin' place. Emotional maturity is complicated, but housemates are expected to hold themselves and eachother to a high standard of communication and maturity.

Some practical questions:

  • Available bedrooms and rent:
    • Upstairs bedroom w/ balcony: $2000/month
    • downstairs bedroom closer to living room (smaller closet): $1100
    • downstairs bedroom closer to bathroom: $1200
    • If you'd like to set up a desk in the common space, add $150.
    • We have a 2 car First-In-Last-Out garage. For a parking space, add $150.
    • Bills will be split equally between occupants, and are on the order of $250/month.
  • Residents may also use the garage, or one of the upstairs closets for storage. There are four upstairs closets.
  • We don't curerntly hire a cleaning service, but we may switch to one if there's demand. Keep your own space clean, take care of the common spaces, and expect appx biweekly house cleaning sessions.
  • As mentioned above, we like board games, and we like weird parties. Our ideal cadence is to host gatherings 1-2 times per month. We'd love it if our roommates enjoyed these things too, and contributed.
  • Minutia and conflicts: We don't have a house conflict policy (yet), except that residents are expected to use best judgement in confronting eachother (see: say nonsense).
  • Expect monthly house check-ins.
  • Pets: undecided, leaning no.
  • Governance: generally democratic, Thor has final say as house manager.

You're still here! ✨
