Git is an easy to use source control software used for most languages these days, there isn't that much too it, but the sooner you start, the better. The basics will do, the important thing is to store your stuff safely on github.

- Create a github account
- Push EVERYTHING you do up to github, every sample project, no matter how n00b or bad it is. This might become your CV
- Codeschool (paid) offers some great courses, the current membership is $9, seems they good cheaper actually.
- Codeacademy (paid), very similar is about to update their ruby stuff, shoudl be ready in the new year.
- Ruby Warrior. This is fun at all levels, really. I love doing that every now and then. It's also a great pair programming exercise.
- Exercism provides a problem and the tests to check if your code does the right thing. This isn't as easy to get into, but buite well done.
