So even if a session is designed for 10 people, if that session is popular, you would end up with 30 people in the room. So perhaps the leads can think about strategies to design the do-a-thons for both, small and large groups. Also, the installation requirements for do-a-thons could be sent earlier so people get some time to set up. But overall, a big thanks to all the leads of the do-a-thons. face-to-face meetings, lightning talks. Disagree Agree Agree Neither agree nor disagree Agree Agree Agree Fully Agree Fully Agree Agree While there where enough breaks, sometimes they could've been slightly longer. Due to sesssion overruns I sometimes had back to back sessions with put lead to brain overload syndrome in some instances. Granted longer breaks would probably just lead to longer overruns, so there might have to be a different way of dealing with this. For the interactive doathons I would have liked a bit more structure. I liked that it was open in the discussion and work packages but it would be useful to decide on some intermediate goals and split large groups to work on such goals. Otherwise discussions get fuzzy and the workshop group splits up randomly. The large share of interactive sessions instead of frontal talks only, the Speed dating beforehand, the welcoming at ETH Zürich together with the social parts (the common dinner was a very nice idea). The doathons could be more structured (see previous comments). The speed dating was very nice, only it was very loud where we undertook it (I am complaining on a high level here ;)) Fully Agree Disagree twice 3 days First come first serve (like today);Participant interest in suggested contributions (aim: make the workshop sessions more productive) yes 1 3 Postdoc (temporary contract)

Coding in groups can be very fun, but did unfortunately not take place... It would also be nice to have explicit tutorials on packages/tools hold by people who are familiar with them. That could help the community to share experience about coding and practical issues. 2018/06/08 11:46:58 AM GMT+2 Agree Neither useful nor useless Very useful Useful Very useful Very useful Useful A mixture of both depending on the format. Speed dating at the beginning. Maybe lightning talks on the first afternoon to allow to discuss the contents with the presenters afterwards. Maybe we should start with do-a-thons which do not have the highest like-scores as in later session there's a tendency not to participate in do-a-thons anymore which might change if those are the 'more insteresting' ones. If we have to limit participation numbers every time we probably should discuss to increase the participation number or to limit e.g. the number of participants from each institution to allow for a more diversity among participants. 2018/06/08 11:47:21 AM GMT+2 Agree Neither useful nor useless Very useful Useful Useful Useful Very useful Interactive parts first, then passive parts (talks) The do-a-thons can be a little overwhelming even for folks that have not worked on the topic before, but have some idea of what to do. Such folks would not have been able to contribute much. It would be useful if the do-a-thons continue to be active between workshops. The workshops will still be relevant to resolve things that need face to face interactions (or to accelerate something). Fully Agree Agree Agree Agree Neither agree nor disagree Fully Agree Agree Agree Fully Agree Fully Agree Power sockets were not always available. Something to consider for future workshops. Got to know the community well. Sufficient room for interactions. Good start to do-a-thons. While there some learn-a-thons, there could have been more, and could have been planned a bit more in advance. 2018/06/08 11:48:18 AM GMT+2 Fully Agree Useful Useless Neither useful nor useless Very useful Useful Useful Lightning Talks should be in the beginning as they lay a groundwork for discussions. To shorten that, one could thikn about having 1-minute-1-slide lightning talks, i.e. pitches. The rest was amazing! Neither agree nor disagree Fully Agree Fully Agree Agree Agree Neither agree nor disagree Neither agree nor disagree Agree Agree Fully Agree The first do-a-thon session on Thursday was shorter than the others. While it was obviously in the schedule, people prepared the do-a-thon for 90 minutes. Maybe it's good to have them all the same length. (But I have no definite opinion here, just mentioning a possibility.) Hard to single out something, as it was very well organized. Congrats! Maybe it would be good to find a different way to sort the do-a-thons to the different slots. For example people could provide an ordering of importance of the things they want to visit (and thus prefer not to be in parallel).
