Tom's Narrow Guide to Melbourne

Tom's Narrow Guide to Melbourne

Places I like, for RubyConf AU attendees.

Coffee + Brunch Spots

  • Queen Victoria Markets
  • Degraves St
  • St Ali (South Melbourne, just outside the CBD. Must try the bottled iced lattes.)
  • Auction Rooms (North Melbourne, just outside the CBD)

Coffee only

  • Brother Baba Budan
  • Market Lane Coffee
  • Industry Beans

Trendy spots

These are slightly outside of the CBD.

  • Brunswick St, Fitzroy. Take the 11 tram heading north and hop off at Johnston St. Recommended eats: Naked For Satan, Grub, Lune, Alimentari.
  • Chapel St. Recommended eats: Lucky Penny, Mr Mister.
  • Lygon St, Carlton. Recommended eats: Pidapipo, Milk the Cow, Brunetti (avoid the coffee).

Other

  • Grafitti art: Hosier Lane
  • Chinese New Year: Little Bourke St (Chinatown)
  • Beer: Find a Dan Murphy's, head to the local beer section. Do not buy anything in a bottle, only cans. Look for IPAs and other ales. Recommendations: Stomping Ground, Mountain Goat, Colonial, Moo Brew. Also available in many pubs/restraunts.
