Scott McKeen on Bike Lanes

All City Council votes on topics related to bike or bicycle can be found here.

In the case of Councillor McKeen, he has voted in favour of every bicycle lane removal:

  • 40th Street, on 2015-07-07. Note, item 3 of the motion contains That Administration prior to the 2019 Capital Budget provide to Council through Transportation Committee a proposed revised bicycle transportation implementation strategy to include plans for a high quality (segregated from traffic) network of cycle infrastructure and neighbourhood (local road) routes informed by the 2015-2018 Bike Lane Infrastructure Plan enhanced public engagement strategies approved by Council on June 5 2015
  • 95th Avenue, on 2015-07-07. Note, there was a motion in June of that year to engage with the community and stakeholders for an alternative bike lane
  • 97th Street, on 2015-06-10. Note, there was a directive to "replace it with cycling infrastructure along 91 Street or another appropriate alternative", but no insight was given into what was "appropriate"

In terms of 102 Avenue, the only vote Council has made in regards to that project was in its unanimous approval of the 2014-2018 Bike Lane Infrastructure Plan at the June 11, 2014 Meeting

The plan contained the following direction to implement Major Bike Routes in the Core

The focus and budget allocation will be on high quality bicycle infrastructure in Edmonton’s central areas (Downtown, Oliver, Strathcona, Garneau, University). These areas are priorities because they have the highest volumes of existing bicycle trips, they are major destinations for Edmontonians, they require bicycle infrastructure to reduce the number of vehicle-bicycle collisions, and there are many requests for bicycle infrastructure on these routes. Projects to be initiated with consultation are the Strathcona/Garneau/University route (83 Avenue) and the Downtown/Oliver/Glenora route (102 Avenue)
