Guiding Questions to Define The Relationship:

  • What are each of our learning goals for this project? What drives us in this project? Dustin - get better at Fetch with all the various options that go along with it. Trisha - get more comfortable with React and Router
  • What is your collaboration style? How do you feel about pair programming vs. divide-and-conquer approaches? We both like pairing but want to get better at remote work.
  • How do you communicate best? How do you appreciate receiving communication from others? Daily stand-ups at the beginning and end of the day to check in, talk about what each person did and what we're going to do for homework that night. Both of us prefer direct communication, and if something is going on, we can share that during our daily stand-ups too.
  • How would you describe your work style? Both of us like working with other people, but we want to get better at remote work. When we work by ourselves, we need to be REALLY by ourselves, away from any distractions.
  • What are each of our strengths? How can our strengths complement each other? We both work well with other people and are able to communicate. Trisha has gotten into a good flow of asking for help when the productive struggle becomes unproductive. Dustin is good at collaborating and bouncing ideas off of one another. Trisha is good at creating short deadlines and getting work done, so she can help Dustin with procrastination.
  • What’s gone well or poorly in your previous projects? Energy, excitement and enthusiasm has gone well with Dustin before. Some things that haven't gone well with previous projects is doing something that was explicitly said not to do. Review and approval along the way is important and necessary, since we're working together.
  • How will we set direction and make decisions as a team? In daily stand ups and when we have work time, talk through decisions together. Don't go rogue.
  • How will we overcome obstacles? If something is going on between the two of us, talk about it in Daily Stand Ups. If we're spending more than 30-60 minutes on a problem, recognize it, get help. If we're unable to get something done for homework, own that, name why it didn't get get done, figure it out.
  • What do you need (resources, environment, communication) to do your best work? Quiet environment, clear communication, make decisions together.
  • What scheduling restraints do you have? What are your scheduling preferences? Neither of us have significant restraints on our schedule. We both get here between 8-8:30, so we can check in in the morning, and we both are going to work at night. Trisha is usually here until 6, then work again when she gets home. We're both committing to not work past 9 or 9:30, unless something extreme comes up.
  • What is your style for giving feedback? Does anything ever hold you back from giving feedback? We're both very comfortable talking to each other, and if something seems off, we can ask probing questions instead of making assumptions.
  • What do you identify as being your biggest strength(s) technically, as they relate to this project? Where do you feel you could use improvement in your technical skills, as they relate to this project? How can our team help support you in improving these skills? Dustin - wants to get better at fetch and design and feels strong in being creative in the logic of how to make something happen. Trisha - feels good about design, asking for help, the basic mechanics and structure of React. She wants to get better at and more comfortable with testing.
  • What tools do you want to use to manage the project? Github projects
  • How do you want the group to solve problems when members run into issues with features of the project? Ask for help from people in our cohort and from Mod 4
  • How do you know if a project is successful? How can we achieve that as a group? Do what the spec says! Stay excited about the project, especially as we get into the second week of the project. Lots of high-fives and jumping on tables.
  • How will we recognize each other's successes and celebrate them? Celebrate with high-fives, fist-bumps, jumping on tables. In Daily Stand Ups, each of us sharing a win or something that went well so we can recognize our own hard work, as well as each other's.
