#VegasTech's message to our representatives
NOTES
- The immediate threat seems to be PIPA in the senate, and since we're constituents of the most influential man in the senate, we'll start with Reid.
- What about Dean Heller?
- SOPA is just as bad. We have to talk to Shelley Berkley too.
- Amending the bill to take out the DNS blocking provisions isn't good enough.
- The official name of PIPA is PROTECT-IP, which is already a (very long) acronym. We should not refer to it as PIPA in formal correspondence.
-------------
Senator Reid,
Recently, Las Vegas has received a lot of attention in tech and business circles as an emerging hub of creative startups, big ideas and innovative people. We are those innovators, and we're writing you today to express our collective opposition to the PROTECT-IP Act.
After a long, painful recession that hit Nevada especially hard, we're working tirelessly to build companies, create jobs and diversify our great state's economy.
However, if PROTECT-IP becomes law, its resulting chilling effect on our businesses means that we simply will not be able to continue aiding Nevada's economic recovery.
We're not alone. Companies nationwide have expressed, in no uncertain terms, how absolutely devastating PROTECT-IP - and its House counterpart SOPA - would be, not only to the entrepreneurial spirit that has created some of the most successful companies the world has ever seen, but to the very foundation of the internet itself.
