My ideas for a more sustainable Cornell campus

Infrastructure

Water use

  • Shower meters -- coming to Donlon!
  • Dual-flush toilets

Waste treatment

Awkward question, but how much human waste does Cornell produce each semester?

  • Convert human waste from campus into biofuels (e.g. pee into hydrogen)
  • Convert poop into biochar (produces syngas)

Roads

  • Paint roads white
  • Solar roads
  • More bike lanes on campus roads

Food

Eating less meat

  • Buy less meat for the dining halls and stores (e.g. Nasty's)
  • Offer more tasty vegetarian options in dining halls and at stores

Reducing food waste

  • Buy raw ingredients that aren't as aesthetically appealing, which usually get thrown away by distributors because they can't be sold

Reusing food waste

  • Convert what can't be composted into biochar and biogas
