FLOSS Foundations membership and moderation policies & process

The FLOSS Foundations list admin interface is https://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/admin/foundations.

The current list of moderators is:

  • Allison Randal
  • Dave Neary
  • Michael Meeks
  • VM Brasseur

Moderating membership requests

  1. Do you know the person requesting membership to the list? If you do, and the person is somehow sensibly open source related, just approve the subscription.
  2. If you don't know the person, contact them and ask for more information.
  3. Send the new member a welcome email message. Templates for this message are available here. Cc the other moderators on this welcome email so they will know that it's been handled.

Requests which are always declined:

  • Spam bots (duh)
  • Reporters, unless they understand and agree that they are not allowed to quote from the list.

Moderating messages

The overwhelming majority of the messages requiring moderation are spam. Simply discard these, optionally adding the address to a discard list if it is a repeat offender.
