I'm finally getting annoyed enough with missing IRC messages to do something about it. I'm just not sure yet what that thing is that I'll be doing. This doc is to collect requirements & resources for ease of sharing with advisors on the matter.

What I have

  • An Ubuntu server at home
  • A Dreamhost account with command line access
  • Very rusty sysadmin skills
  • A 2013 MacBook Pro running Textual as an IRC client

What I'd like

  • To continue using Textual as my IRC client (read: no irssi/screen if I can help it)
  • To stop losing scrollback & PMs when I close my MacBook or otherwise go offline
  • A solution which supports connections to multiple IRC networks (freenode, perl.irc.org, slack)

That's all that comes to mind immediately. I may rev this if other things occur to me.
