Shorter than usual session - just 75 mins.

  1. Dynamic Warm-up (5 mins) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNnDto7Cdio&t=75s

    • Jumping Jacks x 10
    • Seals x 10 (clap in front)
    • Balance - Stand on one leg with other held behind. Swap.
    • High Knees
    • Lunges
    • Side-shuffle
    • Soldier Kicks
    • Lean-in - 2 players lean in against each other while running from line towards coach.
    • Sprints
  2. Passing Drill (10 mins) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=us7Gfb_CsQQ 1 ball for every 3 players. Players form a triangle 4 yards apart.

Players pass the ball to player in the middle who passes it back. Short fast passes. Try to build up some momentum. Start slowly though and focus on accurate passes. Stop the ball with one foot pass with the other. Player in middle Skips from one side of cone to other when alternating passes. See video.

  3. Passing and Receiving Drill - 15 - 20 mins https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4yt-nU-7-E Assuming 15 players, setup 3 areas each like the following...

    C------C (5 x 10 yards ) C = Cone

    C C

Two Blue attackers play against 1 Red in each area, with 2 blue supporting players as targets operating on the end lines in each area. One of the target players in each area acts as a server and starts the practice with a set of 4 footballs. The practice starts with the serving player playing one of the footballs in to the attacking team who play 2 vs 1 against the defender with the aim of transferring the ball to the target player at the opposite end of the area. All 3 areas are playing at the same time with the aim being to transfer all 4 balls across in the quickest time. Teams can only use one ball at a time. Attacking players have the opportunity to work on their body shape to receive the ball, creating and exploiting space in individual and combination attacking play.

  4. Mini-match drill - Using the Wingers (10 mins). (THis is the drill Brendan talked to Mike and I about on first training session). On a smaller than usual pitch place a cone 3 meters from each sideline at midfield. Players must use wingers to pass the ball through midfield. Ball can only be passed through midfield through the cones. Players cannot run with the ball through midfield except through the cones near sidelines. The idea is to encourage players to use the wingers.

  5. Heaven and Hell (10 mins)

  6. Match! (30 mins)
