Some installations wind up with a functioning network connection after the first configuration attempt. Others have more difficulties. And configuration efforts will vary based on environment. A stand-alone system or a dual-boot system should have the same configuration for networking. A system under virtualization software will have configuration occurring in the guest OS, and in the virtualization software, and possibly even in the host OS. In this discussion, address these questions:
What is your installation setup?
What configuration settings did you supply during installation?
What configuration settings had to be modified after installation?
Consider an install in VirtualBox (or one of the other virtualization software applications) - how would you go about setting up communication between two guest systems within that software, assuming that your system could run both simultaneously? Would this communication be within the virtual world, or would it go out to the network?
