Feed Readers comparison

My comparison notes for web-based remotely-hosted Google Reader clones/replacements. Has to be at least 90% similar to Google Reader and not some Pinterest-like or Instapaper-like apps.

Here's a list of almost all Google Reader alternatives.

In no particular order, here goes:

  • Clean, Helvetica-ish interface
  • No config/options
  • No list view
  • Can't change folder sort order
  • Can't export feeds
  • Subscription-based $9/year
  • Twitter: https://twitter.com/yoleoreader

Feedly Cloud http://cloud.feedly.com/ (not the extension)

  • Clean, minimalistic, very customizable interface
  • Feed item view is cluttered with big heading and social buttons
  • Difficult to organize the folders and feeds
  • Can't import OPML
  • Can't export feeds
  • Free?
  • Twitter: https://twitter.com/feedly

  • Slightly cluttered Windows-like interface
  • Free account contains only 64 sites/feeds
  • Can export feeds
  • Open-sourced. Free or premium account $24/year
  • Twitter: http://twitter.com/newsblur
  • Rather clean but not-so-minimalistic interface
  • Tells you which one of your feeds breaks during the import process
  • Feed reading (going to next feed) feels very fast somehow
  • List view is a two-liner instead of one-liner, so it uses more vertical space
  • Can't change folder sort order
  • 10-day free trial or subscription-based ($2/month or $16/year)
  • Can export feeds
  • Twitter: https://twitter.com/getbulletin
  • Very minimalistic, Bootstrap-ish interface
