Server Side Engineer


Metis Machine is looking for a motivated, high-energy and enthusiastic 
personality to help build out a variety of solutions that are quite challenging. 
Everything from API/Graphql endpoints to handling mass quantities of data.

Background

Metis Machine is a Charlottesville, VA based early-stage start-up whose 
mission is to create the Machine Learning “easy-button”. 90% of the data 
we have has been created in the only the past two to three years. In addition, 
the commoditization of cpu/gpu, bandwidth, storage, and sensors is ushering the 
next wave in computing – Machine Learning, Deep Learning, and AI. We are already 
seeing this give rise to automation and robotics transforming factories, 
transportation, energy and more. While large corporations have the resources to 
build data analytics & data engineering skill sets – UX/UI Designers, 
Data Scientist, DevOps Engineers, Software Engineers and Infrastructure 
investments – the vast majority of companies are not prepared or many times cannot 
afford to make these huge investments. Metis Machine sees this as the opportunity 
to close the gap and bring this transformative technology to these companies.

What you’ll be doing
Maintain existing functionality, tools and frameworks.
Implement new functionality, tools and frameworks.
Collaborate with other teams to ensure correct implementation.
Optimize code for performance, usability, accessibility.
Write clean, organize, and documented code.
Write tests for integration and usability
Assist in peer code reviews

Required skills
Strong attention to detail.
Highly proficient in Elixir or Erlang.
Ability to read and understand Python.
Ability to work fast and get shit done.
Experience with Git.
Enjoying the taste of your own dog food.

Nice to haves
Solid foundation in design and usability principles.
Working experience with JavaScript.
System experience with Linux, Kubernetes, Kafka, etc..
A Github account with something for us to look at.
