Things that annoy me about android apps for reddit

reddit is fun

  • UI is so cluttered and ungainly and requires so many clicks to do things I couldn't stand using it long enough to build a more complete list

relay for reddit

  • clicking through messages doesn't sync read state back to the website
  • after hiding a submission, opening the submission before it opens the original one
  • no way to view the comments on a submission that links to another post on reddit
  • have to scroll back up above all comments to add one yourself
  • voting on, replying to, etc. long comments requires scrolling back to the middle of the comment
  • no support for wiki pages
  • changing comment sort is sticky
  • when submitting a comment and there's a network error, the comment is lost
  • no title suggestion on link submission
  • unsubscribing is funky
  • reply buttons still show on archived threads
  • password auth

sync for reddit

  • no user-visible decoration of distinguished comments
  • no mod tool support
  • after going back to comments from a link, your state in the link (including any pages you navigated to) is lost
  • hiding a post often puts the next one above the scroll
  • doesn't show percentage upvoted
  • doesn't support report reasons
  • can't share without scrolling to top
  • can be difficult to reply without scrolling to the top
  • inbox defaults to all messages (read and unread)
  • no submission support
  • really shitty imgur detection

bacon reader

  • can't filter to only unread messages
  • no way to easily navigate to a specific subreddit
  • comment box is single-line. Really?
  • cannot choose q&a as default sort
  • requires a swipe and two clicks to hide a post (unless you do it from thread view and it's a self post)
  • ui is just... overly plain somehow. I can't place a finger on why, but I don't like looking at it
  • no report reasons support

now for reddit

  • password auth
  • action bar being at top of screen makes it difficult to reach to do common things
  • hide doesn't remove from page
  • no way to filter to only unread messages

reddit prime

  • password auth

flow

  • password auth

reddit (official)

  • looks like password auth
  • posting a comment doesn't show it in the thread when it succeeds
  • cannot reload comment threads
  • reporting is either broken or doesn't support report reasons and provides no notification of a successful report
  • can't hide comment thread from detail view
  • can't report comment thread from detail view
  • something about the design of the compact view makes it hard for me to see what subreddit a post is from
  • number of comments in detail view appears to be from when the thread was loaded in list view, not number of comments when detail view is loaded
  • no way to use external browser for viewing links
  • no distinguishing between viewed and unviewed threads
  • no multireddit support
  • no auto-complete for typed-in specific subreddits (especially bad since there's no multireddit support!)
  • user comment view has no space between subreddit and timestamp
  • user comment view doesn't show scores
  • user comment view leads to full threads, not context
  • inbox can't filter by unread
  • PMs have pages of space between sections
