RS232 DB9 Female to RJ45 (8P8C) Female Console Port Terminal Adapter
A rollover cable normally connects a Workstation to a router sonsole port.
Notice that the paired wires are reflections of each other when looking at
the structured cable (Cat5/6). Request-to-send and Clear-to-send are
attached to pins 1 and 8, data set ready and data terminal ready to pins 2
and 7, transmit data and receive data are attached to pins 3 and 6, and
pins 4 and 5 are used as RS-232 GND (low) signals. This allows creation of
a null terminal cable (DTE to DTE) by simply rolling nall the wires from
pins 1 through 8 on one terminal's end to pins 8 through 1 on the other
terminals. This eliminates the need for the DCE equipment between the two
DTEs.
This adapter hangs off the end of a rollover RJ45 console cable, so its
intent is to adapt lines from the Console server (or controlling terminal)
to a traditional server's DB-9 port (controlled terminal) as if it were
the console port of a router or switch. The signals have already been
converted by the rollover cable, so this is effectively a straight through
adapter matching the pins on the DB-9 to thier arranged functions post
rollover in the structured cable at the RJ45 (8P8C) male plug.
