PHP/WordPress Developer – Sportsnet.ca lead
Description:
Do you love mobile, streaming video, and online radio? Do you read your favorite magazines on your iPad or catch up on sports scores while on the go?
We are looking for talented individuals to join our exciting team at Rogers Digital Media. Our team is responsible for the apps, sites, and platforms behind some of Canada’s most influential media brands including Sportsnet, Citytv, Macleans, and 680 News.
We are currently seeking a developer to take the lead in developing Sportsnet.ca!
The site is built in WordPress and requires experience in creating themes and building custom plug-ins. Successful candidates will lead a team of 2 to 6 developers focused on Sportsnet and report directly to the Manager of Web Development. You will also work closely with the rest of our talented WordPress team who are designing and implementing a growing collection of sites to support our Television, Radio, and Publishing business.
Primary Function:
Work within the Rogers Digital Media team as the lead on Sportsnet.ca. Responsible to develop, enhance, and maintain the site by building custom plug-ins and implementing themes. Provide expertise and experience in web development standards and running high performing high traffic sites.
Detailed responsibilities include:
• Create WordPress plug-ins and themes according to given requirements and wireframes
• Client side development including JavaScript, jQuery, CSS, implementation of views and themes.
• Work with the Manager of Web Development to provide estimates and status updates
• Collaborate in teams of 2 to 6 developers and QA
• Work with external vendors as well as other internal web and mobile teams to integrate back-end feeds and APIs.
• Maintain expertise on current industry standards and future trends
Qualifications:
• Must be a big Sports fan!
• 3+ years of professional software development experience in PHP
• 3+ years of experience with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
• 2+ years building WordPress plugins and themes
• Must have experience with Git or other SCM
• Experience working in an Agile environment
• Small company or Startup experience is preferred
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate technical solutions
• A self starter with the ability to pick things up quickly
