Good to know that it helped! I couldn't easily look it up so thought I'd keep it here. I don't have any citation, but most likely this was created by Dr. Carlos Guestrin and Dr. Emily Fox, and shared in coursera ML specialization.

You could even load a python dictionary directly from a pickle file I've uploaded, like this: pickle.load(urllib2.urlopen('https://gist.githubusercontent.com/yrevar/6135f1bd8dcf2e0cc683/raw/d133d61a09d7e5a3b36b8c111a8dd5c4b5d560ee/imagenet1000_clsid_to_human.pkl') )

This is very helpful, thank you.

I am running the following inception: https://github.com/tensorflow/models/tree/master/research/inception
It seems to have 1001 categories. Do you know why it is 1001 and what is the first category?
I could use the same labels file as above, except had to add a dummy category as the first line.

The first one is "I don't know" label. You can ignore it because most ImageNet models don't provide such answer.

This list does not match the labels that were used to train keras inception_v3, I realized after days trying to find a bug in my code because the accuracy when evaluating the model was zero! Just a warning so nobody goes through this again. here is the list used by keras https://s3.amazonaws.com/deep-learning-models/image-models/imagenet_class_index.json

Thanks for the info! One question: Is there any way to trace the hierarchy of class names? For example, from "apple/banana" to "fruit", from "tabby/tiger cat" to "cat" to "animal", etc.?
