Basic configuration to deploy a Symfony2 (or website) project using Apache2
<VirtualHost *:80>
# The ServerName directive sets the request scheme, hostname and port that
# the server uses to identify itself. This is used when creating
# redirection URLs. In the context of virtual hosts, the ServerName
# specifies what hostname must appear in the request's Host: header to
# match this virtual host. For the default virtual host (this file) this
# value is not decisive as it is used as a last resort host regardless.
# However, you must set it for any further virtual host explicitly.
ServerName mywebsite.com
ServerAlias mywebsite.com

# For most configuration files from conf-available/, which are
# enabled or disabled at a global level, it is possible to
# include a line for only one particular virtual host. For example the
# following line enables the CGI configuration for this host only
# after it has been globally disabled with "a2disconf".
#Include conf-available/serve-cgi-bin.conf

Basic configuration to deploy a Symfony2 project using Apache2

Pre-requisites

If you want to configure the rewrite mode in Apache2, you must to execute this command in a terminal:

~$ sudo a2enmod rewrite

After this command, you must restart the apache web server:

~$ sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

Or:

~$ sudo systemctl restart apache2

Steps

  • To create a virtual host for a custom website, rename the "000-default.conf" file with the domain name of the website. Eg: mywebsite.com.conf.
  • Put the configuration file into the folder /etc/apache2/sites-available.
  • Execute this command in a terminal, and then restart the apache web server:
~$ sudo a2ensite mywebsite.com.conf
  • Happy hacking!
