There he lie, in his bed, a cold sweat freezing him like arctic wind. He had no idea what had happened. Hours later this had happened to him.
Josh had woken up, or so he thought, from sleep, on a normal night, on a normal Wednesday. He heard noises coming outside of his window. “Come!” he had heard a familiar voice cry.
“Who's there?” Josh had yelled. Just as suddenly as he heard the voice, the window had opened.
“Finally, Jesus Christ! Didn't you here me?” Drake exclaimed.
“Why the fuck are you here?” yelled Josh.
He replied, “Come out the window, you must. The windflames are about to kill you and I.”
Josh had said, “What the fuck? You come to my house at 3 in the fucking morning...”
“2:25,” interrupted Drake.
“Smartass,” said Josh sarcastically. “Anyway, you say some firefucks are, I mean windflames, are coming to kill you and I.”
Josh's friend replied, “That's what I said, didn't I?”
“I guess”, he had said.
“So lets get the fuck out of here!” cried Drake. The two friends jumped out the window and shimmied close to the chimney. Drake had jumped onto the patio. “Come on!” yelled he.
“This'll hurt!” exclaimed Josh. He jumped on the patio, and felt a grip of moist air bring forth a weightlessness. He gracefully landed. “Oh shit, that was weird.”
“I've always thought you were full of hotair,” joked Drake. He had started running towards his house. “Come on, Josh!”, yelled the adolescent boy, in a rushed tone. Josh had raced after him, seeing a bunch of vivid colors in the sky. They looked like a bunch of people on birds, some of them shooting what looked like Roman Candles at the ground.
Drake ran into his house, and grabbed a drink. “Here,” he had said. “This'll help you get through this shit.”
“What is it?” asked Josh.
Drake replied, “Just drink the fucking thing.” Josh started to feel drousy, and started tripping. A stray dog had attacked him. He had then passed out.
He awoke, just as I had mentioned. Josh checked where the dog had bit him. Marks, cut all over. He checked the clock, 5:30am. The confused teen went into the bathroom and wet a paper towel to help clean it up. Mysteriously, the cuts vanished. What the hell? He had thought. There was an empty water bottle on the counter, he started filling it with water. Thirsty, very thirsty. He started drinking, by the time it was finished, he was already pouring more water in it. The boy never felt so alive, so full of energy, until he drank that bottle of water.
I can't get back to sleep. Josh had tought. He turned on the TV, and waited until 6:50, the time his bus came. The 16-year-old grabbed his backpack and headed to school.
He was shocked. Everything was normal, including his best friend, Drake. He sat next to him. “Was that real last night?”, he asked.
“What the fuck are you talking about?”, Drake replied.
Josh said, “Nevermind.”
Benevolent and malignant thoughts went through his mind.
It was just a dream. No, it couldn't have, it was real, he's just fuckin' with you. Bullshit, it was a fucking dream, sure vivid, but a dream. He couldn't figure it out. Maybe it was some crazy Avatar shit where he was in a different body?
No, impossible. Obviously, it's real, otherwise I wouldn't be wasting my time writing a damn book. A nonfiction book. No, this is not fictitious.
All things seemed to be noticed by Josh, a closer-to-omnicient view was seen by him. He noticed every minute detail. He saw everything. People passing notes in class, everything.
“Josh,” Mr. Oranstein had said.
“What? What? What?” He looked down at the worksheet he had just handed out. “Oh, yeah, Artemis Voldula.”
Mr. Oranstein confirmed his answer, “Correct! Now, Miss Jackson. What are the 4 elements known to ancient civilizations?”
“Eaterf, Irwi, Niwerter, Ind.” Monica, Josh's girlfriend had said.
Wait, that couldn't be right, I didn't learn that Tuesday. It was something else, and I know she knew it, she's a 4.0 student.
Josh sat there, clueless and confused, he just missed something monumentally important.
