# Write up ViewSource 2016
https://viewsourceconf.org/berlin-2016/
- RadialSystem V, Berlin
- 2 Days
- 500 Attendees
- 18 Speaker
- several Workshops / Discussion Tracks / Demo corners
##### Day 0:
RadialSystem, tech check was planed but failed, b/c of failed organization of the ViewSource people. :/
##### Day 1:
Spend the first morning on the phone with the office. Then tech test run for my talk on stage.

Miles showed (again) how important version numbers and semantic versioning are. Especially when solved with SemVer / semantic-release (we still want for our projects, but mostly missed testing to add it). I really think, we should start the discussion on versioning again very soon.
In addition, Miles is one of the most funny, positive and inclusive people I’ve ever met. It was already wonderful to have him at RejectJS / JSConf 2015.

Helens talk was about typography and what it means for web, especially with all the loading issues.
She showed several tools, we could use.

Then lunch. A lot of talking to Mozilla people / developers / few leads. Worked on the last touch ups for my talk.

Jeremy Keith is a brilliant speaker, who is able to give a talk about „progressive enhancement“ without saying those words. But after that, you’ll fully understand the why and how.
Had quite a lot of discussions with him in the past about this topic, which he summed up in this article: https://adactio.com/journal/10665
You can watch this talk here already, because he gave it at RenderConf this year already. https://adactio.com/links/10668

Amazing demo by Ruth John and Tim Pietrusky on audio apis, midi controllers, drum machines and neopixels. Truly amazing
##### Day 2:
https://viewsourceconf.org/berlin-2016/schedule/#coping_summary
Opening keynote was by Lena Reinhard. Pretty much the best talk I’ve seen be her yet and in a while at a conference.
She was speaking about existing in tech. Especially how to survive in a toxic environment like tech. The talk was going deep and I’d love to task you to watch it, when the recordings are online. Her analogies to make a rough topic understandable are flawless.
Notes from her talk are already online… http://schoenaberselten.com/debugging-the-tech-industry/
Also amazing, if you are eager about that topic:

I was nervous as hell (no sure why :D) and had to do a test run (again) to see, if everything works. Again 2-3 tiny touch-ups. Done.
Spend Jen’s and Mike’s talk behind the stage. Got my mic, checked in with the MC and organizers, VR / AR.
Suddenly it was time. Just before lunch on the second day, one of the hardest spots you can get as a speaker. But it went well. People were enjoying the talk a lot, twitter blew up after that. Feedback was really positive and looks like a lot of people changed their point of view on progressive enhancement.

The feedback I mostly was proud of was by Sarah Clark, who is a Google Manager for Teaching and Community. They just finished a 300 hour training program and decided to fully rewrite it, based on my talk. We’ll definitely stay in touch. <333
Gave an interview about building / managing communities, developer relations and organizing conferences to https://twitter.com/SandraPersing.
The second interview for Mozilla was skipped due time issues, because I was pulled into the discussion panel on PWA’s.
It was fun and interesting. I was really surprised how much people are into the offline first concept and see the network as progressive enhancement.
After panel, closing by Robert Nyman and Potch said goodbye.
Speaker dinner. Ada-Rose and I will follow up on the panel discussion and make a podcast on security and PWA’s.

Worked on developer relations until 3am aka bar with people from Google and Mozilla.
Next day office as usual. ;)
