Mod 4 Pre-work paired notes

Aaron Foucheaux Where will you start in the codebase, and why did you decide to start there?

My Process: Started by logging onto the app and familiarizing what it was. (Gives me an idea of how components and functionality fit together.) Read documentation and Readme / setup guide. (General overview of the project and past development notes) Run tests Looked over file structure specifically components and package.json. (package.json, lets me note anything I may not be familiar with. Quick look at the component imports gives me an idea how the components are interacting.) Dig into the components (Start looking at the components that I will need to update in order to complete the issue.)

React Router Prework

This gist contains a short assignment I'd like everyone to complete before our formal lesson. The prework involves reading some of the React Router documentation, and will allow us to keep the lesson more hands on.

Instructions

  1. Fork this gist

Libraries and Frameworks

There are a bunch of JavaScript frameworks out there to use. At Turing, we choose to teach React - it's one of the most popular frameworks out there. Actually, a lot of developers will call React a library, which it is...but it can also be described as a framework. It's a little confusing, but the lines are blurred for React. Let's just say that React is a library with some rules and conventions to follow.

Empathy has played a large role in my past career. I worked with large groups of people and it helped with identifying and finding solutions to problems that arose. In software it should allow your design to identify the true issues that you are trying to solve. When working with a team empathy is important to maintain a good line of communication. Identify areas of stress and help maximize team performance. I had a teammate that was a single mother. Although I do not have children I was able to identify with her and we were able to make scheduling arrangements that fixed her concerns. For me empathy is most challenging during times of great personal stress. I can improve my skills by remembering to slow down and ask lots of question. Also before making critical decisions I can work through my personal stress. With things like meditation and exercise.
