This is my quick-enough guide to give you a taste of the slack awesomeness, in a few minutes

Windows users: This is an OSX guide, on Windows replace ⌘ with Ctrl

Why not just use Skype

Slack is chat + software platform, meaning we can integrate it into our other software. For instance Google calendar, software testing, HR, CRM systems etc. This makes it extremely powerful, now and particularly in the future.

Basics

  • Start an emoji by typing :

Navigation

  • Edit last message: ↑
  • Search recent/unread channels
    1. ⌘ + K
    2. then ↓
    3. then ⏎

Interaction

  • Add reaction emoji: click comment cog, then click Add reaction
  • Add reaction emoji to latest comment press ⇧ + ⌘ + /
  • Increment existing reaction emoji by clicking it
  • Remove all images, gifs and files: /collapse
  • /dnd X = stop all notifications for X minutes
  • Set reminder:
    • e.g /remind me tomorrow at 11pm to tell Homer he really is slow
    • e.g /remind me in 10 minutes to berate myself for forgetting that thing 11 minutes ago

Run poll

  • Ask your question with an invite to vote using reaction emoji:
    • e.g Giphy sucks! Do you agree? _Vote below_ and then add πŸ‘ and πŸ‘Ž reaction emoji
