Section 2: Short Answer Responses

  1. Why do you want mentoring in the job search?
Getting a job is the main reason I applied and chose to attend Turing. I reached out to six people, five Turing grads and one non-Turing individual in the tech industry over the break between Mod 3 and Mod 4. I am actively looking for employment and would like to join the mentorship program to keep myself accountable and to maintain the momentum I have created. I would also like to utilize seasoned eyes to look over cover letters and my evolving resume.

  2. How will you hold yourself accountable to balancing time for your job search and following your mentor and group's advice?
I have a half hour set aside each lunch hour and a three hour period on Saturday mornings, detailed in Section 1 of this application.

  3. What is the focus of your job search (timeline, ideal job, steps you’ve already taken)? Be as specific as you can.
Of course, I would love a job a week after graduation. I am not in a position where I financially need one or on any particular time line, but I don't want to fall on that as an excuse. There are details above regarding what I did over the break. I did follow the calendar above my first week of Mod 4. On Friday of week one I reached out to another person for a coffee date for week 2 and we are currently scheduling that date and time. Saturday, I reached out to one of the individuals I contacted over the break regarding a listing posted on the #job-hunt Turing Slack channel. My contact works at the company. She offered me a referral. I wrote a referral blurb, and contacted Robyn Purvin regarding the role for her referral also. I wrote a cover letter, updated my resume and my Turing portfolio for the position. I expect the referral application link by Tuesday and will have everything ready to apply. I also reached out to another individual I know who works at the same company in a non-tech role. The individual I am meeting with next week works at a company I am interested in. They have several listings open, currently. None are an ideal fit for me, but I am hoping to get more information on one position that might be. I would like to work with a focus on Front End Development, but I am open to Full Stack. I would prefer a mission driven company or organization, but would still be excited by a company that creates a quality product and is serious about quality design.
